Sr. Process Engineer (AME Cell Electrode)
Position Overview:
Solid Power is seeking an experienced Process Engineer to play a pivotal role in the advanced manufacturing engineering team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next‐generation, all solid‐state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast‐paced, collaborative and innovative team environment. A successful candidate will lead from cell design to optimization of battery cell manufacturing processes, ensuring the highest standard of quality, efficiency and reliability. In addition to possessing strong mechanical engineering design skills, the ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on statistical process control (SPC), process capability data analysis, and statistical tolerance stack-up analysis.
Job Duties:
- Work closely with cell design team and cell manufacturing team executing the cell manufacturing line to meet internal and external customer deliverables.
- Responsible for daily start up of pre-pilot cell production for effective shift handoff to operators
- Support cell pilot line operators with process optimization, troubleshooting, support and training
- Become an expert on operating, testing, and troubleshooting equipment.
- Oversee the equipment center to include capturing preventative maintenance, PFMEA/DFMEA, 5S, continuous improvement, parts ordering and equipment procurement as required
- Work closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team members.
- Aid in development of manufacturing procedures, including quality control test methodologies.
- Maintain general lab safety and daily work cleanliness.
- Document existing and new capabilities with detailed SOPs, work instructions and control plans.
Qualifications/ Requirements:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or related field.
- Minium of 5 years of industry experience with lithium-ion cell manufacturing including wet and dry mixing, coating, and calendaring process development.
- Experience with slurry tanks, hopper design, pneumatic conveying and powder feeding.
- Knowledge about slurry rheology and slurry quality control parameters for pilot line.
- Familiarity with Silicon-based anode manufacturing processes
- Experience with high viscosity material processes
- Demonstrate ability and passion to understand processes and the interaction between the material, equipment and the associated impact to product performance
- Strong communicator with a track record of presenting to audiences from the operator to the executive leadership level.
- Familiarity with conducting Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP)
- Experience initial process setup of cell manufacturing line and process development
- Approaches key decisions using a data driven approach
- Team builder that thrives in a fast-paced start-up environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite required, proficiency in SAP preferred.
- Availability to work on-site at our Louisville, Colorado office. Some off-hours might be required.
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):
- Most working hours will be spent on the production floor.
- Ability to lift 50lbs daily.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR.
Salary Range: $110,000 - $140,000/annually
