Sony Interactive Entertainment has an extraordinary opportunity in the Quality Engineering department! We are looking for a motivated and creative individual to help build test strategy and automation that drive quality across PlayStation® Link™ Firmware and Peripherals.

As a Sr. Software Development Engineer in Test, you’ll work hands-on with PlayStation® Link™ devices and develop test tools for embedded firmware. You'll collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to improve performance, stability, and reliability across the platform. We’re a team that values sharing knowledge, improving systems, and delivering thoughtful test coverage at scale.

Responsibilities:

In this role, you’ll help define and scale testing frameworks while building high-quality solutions across embedded and platform layers.

  • Design and improve automation frameworks and tools to validate high-quality device firmware.

  • Develop and maintain automated tests in C for embedded firmware and microcontroller-level integrations with Raspberry Pi.

  • Support platform integration testing across multiple platforms, including PlayStation® 5, PlayStation® Portal, and Windows.

  • Drive automation of peripheral interactions and performance validations using internal tools and frameworks.

  • Monitor and maintain test infrastructure, triage failures, and contribute to root cause analysis and regression verification.

  • Identify automated testing gaps and improve reliability.

  • Analyze runtime performance data and develop benchmarking techniques to support product optimization.

  • Research new tools and methods to enhance firmware testing.

 

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who brings strong technical expertise and is eager to lead testing strategy and help scale quality practices across systems.

  • Demonstrated expertise in test planning and strategy, with a proven ability to design, create, and automate test cases, including unit and integration tests

  • Good understanding of automation frameworks focused around testing device firmware and device integrations.

  • Having a passion for automation with the ability to discuss the pros and cons of various automation approaches.

  • Proficient in Python programming. (Multiple academic or industry projects completed, 2+ years programming experience.)

  • Demonstrated ability programming in C or C++; modern C/C++ experience (e.g. C/C++17).

  • Desire to learn all about device firmware testing.

  • Experience working with Single Board Computer device development and testing integrations around it.

  • Experience building, running, and debugging software in both Windows and Linux environments.

  • Experience crafting, configuring, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins

  • Interpersonal skills around collaboration with Product, Design, and Development teams.

 

Nice-to-Have

If you bring any of these, we’d love to hear about them!

  • Prior experience with PlayStation® SDK development.

  • Experience with GitHub Actions

  • Experience testing or interacting with Windows-based drivers.

  • Familiarity with PlayStation products and games.

  • Familiarity with basic electrical concepts such as current draw, voltage levels, battery diagnostics, and microcontroller-based measurements

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$179,400 - $269,200 USD
