We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Data Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in data analysis, data modeling, and familiarity with LookML/SQL and BigQuery. This role requires the ability to self-motivate and complete projects in a fast-paced start-up environment. This role will involve supporting data operations, performing data analysis, and assisting in the development of data-driven insights. This role will also involve collaborating with colleagues in the Technology and Product teams to design, implement, and optimize our data infrastructure to ensure efficient and reliable data operations.

You'll be responsible for:

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Assist in analyzing and interpreting data to provide actionable insights.
  • Develop and maintain reports and dashboards using Looker and SQL.

Data Architecture Design:

  • Coordinate and collaborate around the designing and implementation of a scalable and efficient database solution to support business requirements.
  • Develop and maintain data models, schemas, and data dictionaries.

Database Management:

  • Manage and optimize databases to ensure high performance, availability, and reliability.
  • Support database maintenance tasks, such as backups, indexing, and monitoring.
  • Assist in monitoring and optimizing database performance

LookML/SQL Development:

  • Learn and develop LookML models for Looker-based data analytics and reporting.
  • Write SQL queries to extract, manipulate, and analyze data from various sources.

BigQuery Expertise:

  • Utilize BigQuery for data storage, querying, and processing.
  • Optimize BigQuery usage for cost-efficiency and performance.

Data Integration:

  • Design and implement ETL processes to integrate data from multiple sources.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and accuracy across systems.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Collaborate with product, technology, finance, marketing and distribution services to ensure business needs are being addressed.o Provide technical support and troubleshooting for database-related issues.

Documentation and Best Practices:

  • Create and maintain documentation for data architecture, processes, and procedures.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for data management and governance.

Project Examples

  • HubSpot joins for asset manager monthly reporting and internal consumption
  • Client's networks application Audit log enrichment to highlight user activity and navigation
  • Redesign and develop a new availability grid that can identify asset managers core products, asset class, strategy type, etc. so that they can easily be matched with appropriate companies and/or contacts
  • Asset manager report automation/changes; Specifically, addressing a more scalable asset management report output (monthly)
  • Adding contact roles to opportunities via a joined table
  • Join / align Salesforce to application membership
  • Streamline lead qualification scoring and routing in partnership with marketing partners
  • Enrich/build membership table joins and reporting

Ideally, you'll have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related quantitative field.
  • 2-5+ years of experience in database management, data engineering, or data analysis.
  • Proficiency in SQL, dbt (data build tool), and Python for data manipulation, transformation, and analysis.
  • Experience with LookML for developing and maintaining Looker models.
  • Experience with Fivetran for data replication and pipeline management.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling principles, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Familiarity with version control (Git) and collaboration tools (GitHub).
  • Proficiency in at least one data visualization tool (Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or similar) for creating interactive dashboards and reports.
  • Experience designing and delivering clear, impactful data-driven presentations and reports to stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and stay updated with the latest trends in data technologies.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure), NoSQL databases, and statistical analysis.
  • Plus: Familiarity with machine learning concepts and libraries.
  • Plus: Experience designing and delivering clear, impactful data-driven presentations and reports to stakeholders.
