Sotheby’s, Inc. seeks a VP, Head of Contemporary Marquee Sales to provide strategic and creative oversight over the Contemporary Art Evening Auction and The Now Evening Auction. Contribute to sourcing works and coordination for both auctions, including consignments, authentication, oversight of the look and feel of catalogue production, marketing materials, and the exhibition. Drive estimating meetings and provide direction for sourcing meetings, present proactive business opportunities, identify and secure business. Meet individual consignment targets per season as well as annual significant contributions. Participate in the proposal process by crafting bespoke proposal documents, regularly reviewing strategies, look and feel of proposals, and ensuring templates are fresh and updated. #LI-DNI
Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Art History, or a related field, followed by 5 years of progressively responsible experience with sourcing and selling contemporary art work in auctions or private sales. Experience must include: 5 years of experience with contemporary art valuation and pricing; 5 years of experience with building and managing high-level client relationships; 5 years of experience writing and presenting formal sales proposals; 3 years of experience with consignments of both collections and single items valued in excess of $50 million; 1 year of experience utilizing knowledge of the financial levers and economics of the auction business in order to analyze risk and win consignments. Position requires up to 15% domestic and international travel. Part-time telecommuting is permitted. Will work in various, unanticipated locations in the U.S.
