ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Database Administrator II (DBA) will be a key player in managing and optimizing the database infrastructure for our program. The role demands a forward-thinking individual with extensive experience in database administration, cloud infrastructure, data analytics, and DevOps practices. This DBA will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the availability, performance, and security of the database systems, supporting critical healthcare application.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Database Management & Optimization:
  • Design, implement, and manage databases using Amazon RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, and Oracle.
  • Migrate databases from Oracle to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.  
  • Perform regular database maintenance, tuning, and optimization to ensure high performance and availability.
  • Develop and implement strategies for data storage, retention, and archiving in alignment with legal and regulatory requirements.

Database Monitoring:

  • Monitor database performance and security using Grafana, Splunk, New Relic, CloudWatch, and CloudTrail.
  • Implement proactive monitoring and alerting mechanisms to identify and address potential issues before they impact operations.

Data Analytics & Reporting:

  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to develop and maintain ETL processes and data pipelines.
  • Utilize Apache NiFi and NiFi Registry.
  • Utilize SQL and Python for data querying, analysis, and reporting.
  • Develop dashboards and visualizations using AWS QuickSight and other BI tools to support data-driven decision-making.

Operations & Management:

  • Utilize tools such as Terraform, Jenkins, Kubernetes and Elasticsearch.
  • Manage CI/CD pipeline processes using Jenkins, GitHub, and Sonatype Nexus.
  • Leverage DevOps practices to automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and deployment.

Collaboration & Innovation:

  • Work closely with product owners, scrum masters, business analysts, and other stakeholders to gather and refine requirements.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and best practices in database management, cloud infrastructure, and data analytics.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • 5+ years of experience in database administration and management.
  • Extensive experience with managing and optimizing PostgreSQL/Aurora PostgreSQL and Oracle databases hosted on Amazon RDS, including performance tuning, backup and recovery, security configurations, and high availability setups.
  • Experience migrating databases from Oracle to PostgreSQL/Aurora PostgreSQL using tools such as the AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT) and AWS Database Migration Service (DMS).
  • Experience with data integration and ETL tools.
  • Expert proficiency in SQL and Python scripting.
  • Proficiency with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana, Splunk, New Relic, CloudWatch, and CloudTrail.
  • Strong background in cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS.
  • Experience supporting Java/Spring Boot-based microservices and RESTful APIs.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines, GitHub, Terraform, Jenkins, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with agile methodologies (SAFe, Scrum) and tools (Jira, Confluence). 
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Proven track record of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • Candidates must have lived in the United States 3 out of the past 5 years

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • Oracle, PostgreSQL and/or AWS database certifications
  • SAFe Agile certification
  • Familiarity with Apache NiFi and NiFi Registry.
  • Experience implementing and optimizing data pipelines using Databricks, Apache Spark, or similar platforms to ensure efficient and scalable data processing and analytics. 
  • Experience in healthcare IT and understanding of regulatory requirements such as HIPAA.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of CMS processes and standards.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
