Title: Online Learning Specialist

Reports to: Assistant Director of Online Learning  

Compensation: $58/hr 

FLSA: Non-Exempt   

Location: New York, NY 

Employee Type: Part-time, Temporary through August 31, 2027 

Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 1-2 days/week in the SEO office at 55 Exchange Place, New York, NY 10005 

Hours: 15 hours/week 

Schedule: Must be able to dedicate 15 hours a week to work on tasks asynchronously and be able to join 1-2 weekly meetings on Monday-Friday 9 am to 5 pm. 

ABOUT SEO  

SEO Scholars is a free eight-year academic program that gets low-income public high school students to and through college–with a 90% college graduation rate. In high school, we offer intensive year-round academic preparation via a carefully calibrated, rigorously assessed course of supplemental education. Scholars also receive one-on-one mentorship, enrichment opportunities, SAT prep and strategy courses, tutoring, and individualized guidance through the college application and admissions process. POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Online Learning Specialist supports the design, administration, and continuous improvement of SEO Scholars' digital learning environment. As a member of the Curriculum & Instruction Online Learning team, this role helps ensure that online courses, educational technology platforms, and digital learning resources are effectively developed, maintained, and delivered to support high-quality instruction. 

Working closely with the Assistant Director of Online Learning and cross-functional partners, the Online Learning Specialist manages learning management system administration, supports course development and quality assurance, creates training resources, and provides technical support for instructors and staff. This role plays an important part in creating accessible, engaging, and equitable online learning experiences while helping to streamline processes and enhance the effective use of educational technology across the organization. 

Technology Administration and Support 

  • Create and manage accounts of scholars, instructors, and staff on different edtech tools and platforms. 
  • Configure course and system settings within our EdTech platforms and tools to support data collection, course development, and instructional processes. 
  • Support and contribute to initiatives to improve workflow and efficiency  
  • Collaborate with other Online Learning members to evaluate digital tools and emerging technologies for instructional alignment, integration capacity, accessibility, and data collection; conduct pilots as needed. 
  • Produce courses, trainings, webinars, and workshops for instructors, staff, and scholars. 
  • Answer, resolve, and/or escalate support requests from staff, instructors, and scholars related to educational technologies or online curriculum. 

 

Instructional Design & Content Creation: 

  • Collaborate with the Instructional Designer to adapt course maps and lessons into Brightspace courses, ensuring accessibility and user-friendliness. 
  • Produce multimedia content, including HTML pages, videos, interactive presentations, animations, and online modules, to enhance the learning experience. 
  • Apply instructional technologies, learning theories, and universal design principles when supporting online and hybrid course development. 

Quality Assurance 

  • Follows the evaluation framework for SEO online courses and provides support on quality improvement initiatives. 
  • Ensures course content is accessible and equitable and meets established standards for quality assurance. 
  • Ensures course settings are correct and stable for lesson delivery. 

 

Project Assistance 

  • Participates in routine team meetings to discuss roadblocks and brainstorm solutions on team projects. 
  • Utilizes project management software to ensure efficient workflows and progress reports. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Educational Technology, Computer Science, Instructional Design, or a related field. Master's degree preferred. 
  • Experience in educational technology administration, technical training, and designing content and user experiences within a Learning Management System or other type of online educational platform (ideally Brightspace). 
  • Experience managing and coaching individuals and teams on using digital tools for learning, instruction, or course building preferred. 
  • Experience providing instructional design support across modalities (i.e. face-to-face, hybrid and online courses) preferred. 
  • Quality Matters (QM) and/or Online Learning Consortium (OLC) certification in online course design and/or delivery preferred. 

 

COMPENTENCIES & SKILLS 

  • Strong technical expertise in managing Learning Management Systems (LMS), preferably Brightspace, as well as educational technology platforms and digital content delivery tools. 
  • Proficiency in HTML5, CSS, and/or JSON for course page creation, customization, and maintenance. 
  • Experience using instructional design software, multimedia tools, and digital learning resources to develop engaging educational content. 
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional best practices, pedagogical frameworks, and high-quality classroom materials. 
  • Understanding of user experience (UX), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and accessibility standards, including WCAG and ADA compliance. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize competing deadlines, and collaborate effectively across teams. 
  • Creative problem-solver with a passion for enhancing educational experiences and outcomes for high school students. 
  • Commitment to advancing educational equity and closing opportunity gaps for first-generation and low-income students. 
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and Zoom. 
  • Experience creating and managing content in platforms such as Miro and Desmos. 
  • Familiarity with automation tools, platform integrations, and API-based workflows. 
  • Knowledge of learning theories, cognitive science, and online or hybrid instructional strategies. 

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS 

The compensation listed in this posting reflects what SEO believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and SEO reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time.
