Are you ready to become a pivotal member of Spotter's outstanding data engineering team? We are in search of a talented Senior Backend API Software Engineer specializing in scalable data serving via Restful APIs, and working with big data sets from various databases. This position will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and optimizing data infrastructure. You will be a key player empowering us to make data-driven SaaS applications and internal system integrations that will fuel our innovation and growth.

Overview:

You are a Senior-level Backend Software Engineer with experience building performant API services that serve data at large scale

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and develop RESTful APIs for internal data consumers using performant API frameworks such as Python Django, NodeJS or similar
  • Ensure optimal latency, authentication, and scalability of Spotter Data API. Follow API server best practices and standards
  • Implement and maintain backend transactional databases and document stores, ensuring data integrity and consistency
  • Work closely with the data engineering team to understand existing datasets that need to be queried via API endpoints
  • Work with various database systems (Postgres, Elastic Search, DynamoDB, CockroachDB, vector databases, data warehouses) and data lake technologies, applying optimization techniques for scalable queries
  • Explore new scalable solutions to meet our growing needs
  • Work with product engineering team to learn about the upcoming needs
  • Benchmark existing solutions periodically to ensure low latency, make recommendations when needed

Who You Are: 

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar technical or engineering discipline
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience specializing in backend services
  • Proficient with Python (Django) to serve large scale datasets
  • Experience running software and services in the cloud
  • Proficiency with SQL on RDBMS and data warehouse solutions like Redshift
  • Proficiency with maintaining fault tolerant systems in production
  • Advanced knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure

Additional Valued Skills: 

  • Experience with YouTube APIs and YouTube/video performance data
  • Experience with data acquisition from external APIs at large scale / in parallel processing
  • Experience with Data-Lake technologies
  • Experience with vector databases
  • Experience with AWS Glue metastore
  • Experience with Data-Mesh approaches
  • Experience with data cataloging, data lineage and data governance tools and approaches

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles that will be performed in Culver City. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The overall market range for roles in this area of Spotter are typically: $160K-$200K salary per year. The range listed is just one component of Spotter’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual discretionary bonus and equity.
