We are hiring a Newroom Intern, Wisconsin to join our team located in Madison, Wisconsin. This is a temporary position that will start in January 2026.
As the Newsroom Intern, Wisconsin, you will:
- Assist reporters and editors with daily coverage of Wisconsin state government and politics
- Monitor legislative hearings, press conferences, and public meetings at the State Capitol
- Conduct background research on policy issues, legislation, and public officials
- Draft short news items, briefs, and summaries for digital publication
- Fact-check articles and verify sources and data
- Help maintain news calendars and track breaking developments
- Perform administrative and editorial support tasks, such as posting press releases, as needed in a fast-paced newsroom
Essential Qualifications for this position include:
- Current enrollment in a college or university, preferably majoring in journalism, political science, communications, or a related field
- Strong writing, grammar, and editing skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and work independently with guidance
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to work onsite in Madison, Wisconsin during the internship period
Preferred Qualifications for this position include:
- Familiarity with news writing style and basic AP style
- Interest in state government, public policy, and political journalism
This is an onsite work opportunity that operates out of the State Affairs office located in Madison, Wisconsin.
The final job level and annual salary will be determined based on the education, qualification, knowledge, skills, ability, and experience of the final candidate(s), and calibrated against relevant market data and internal team equity.
