What You’ll Do
The Medical Director, Cardiology position is a pivotal leadership role responsible for driving cardiology-focused clinical initiatives, enabling cardiology partner and vendor integration, and spearheading comprehensive training and education programs across all Strive Health regions. This role combines advanced cardiology expertise with systematic performance management to optimize cardiorenal care coordination and deliver exceptional outcomes for patients with complex cardiovascular and kidney disease. While not serving as the patient's attributed cardiologist, this role is critical in ensuring that cardiac care through the patient's personal nephrologist is optimized, well-coordinated, and aligned with Strive's mission of transforming kidney care through innovative cardiorenal management. This role reports to the Chief Clinical Officer.
The Day to Day
- Design and implement cardiology-focused clinical programs that systematically impact key metrics including GDMT adherence, volume management, utilization patterns, and cardiorenal performance indicators through continuous monitoring and targeted interventions
- Partner strategically with Regional Medical Directors and Nephrology Medical Director to ensure seamless "cardiorenal" alignment of clinical programs with appropriate implementation, oversight, and performance measurement
- Lead clinically focused rounds to review complex clinical cases, facilitate collaborative problem-solving, and advocate for patient-level issues while identifying outliers and implementing targeted interventions
- Collaborate directly with Strive providers to share individual feedback on cardiology-related clinical performance and drive systematic performance improvements across all regions
- Engage comprehensively with care management teams to enhance knowledge of cardiology care, ensure performance on key clinical metrics, and optimize care coordination capabilities
- Develop and disseminate evidence-based educational content on cardiac care management best practices for nurses and providers while actively participating in onboarding of new hires
- Support provider integration team by maintaining and expanding direct relationships with new and existing partner cardiologists and cardiology vendors to foster robust participation and collaboration
- Actively serve on central corporate clinical committees and provide expert consultation on cardiac care as subject matter expert to product, technology, and operations teams
- Engage comprehensively in business development lifecycle from initial pitches through implementation, including creation of clinical workflows during implementation phase.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) with completed, nationally accredited fellowship in cardiology and Board certification as a Cardiologist with active medical license.
- Graduate of accredited medical school, residency and fellowship programs.
- 6+ years experience working as a cardiologist, with demonstrated expertise in managing patients with CHF, CKD, and ESKD populations across the care continuum.
- Current state-specific licensure required.
- Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license required, or eligible to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Current BLS or CPR Certification required.
- Board Certified Nephrologist or Internal Medicine provider.
- Efficient and reliable transportation, including an active driver’s license, allowing for the ability to travel across an assigned region to meet patient needs. Locations may include offices, clinics, and patient homes.
- Provides in-person patient care which may include standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
- Internet Connectivity - Min Speeds: 3.8Mbps/3.0Mbps (up/down): Latency <60 ms.

Preferred:
- Advanced experience in value-based care environments with understanding of cardiorenal metrics and quality indicators
- Pre-existing relationships with cardiology provider networks and cardiovascular vendor partners
- Experience with clinical data analytics, performance dashboards, and systematic quality improvement initiatives
- Proven track record in business development and clinical program implementation across multiple regions

Annual Base Salary Range: $202,000 - $324,000
