IT Infrastructure Architect
The Role
We are seeking an Infrastructure Architect to support the management and maintenance of our organisation’s IT infrastructure, including Azure virtual environments, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), Microsoft SQL databases, and on-premises systems. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, a collaborative mindset, and a proactive approach to ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of both cloud and local infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Cloud & Virtual Infrastructure
- Support deployment of new Azure services and enhancements.
- Work with Azure VMs, networking, storage, backup, and recovery technologies.
- Monitor cloud performance and security.
- Contribute to low-level architecture work and technical documentation.
- Exposure to AWS environments.
VDI Management
- Support and optimise VDI environments.
- Troubleshoot VDI performance issues and apply improvements.
- Assist with VDI security configurations.
Backup, Recovery & Database Support
- Assist with backups, disaster recovery plans, and data integrity processes.
- Support DR testing and ongoing improvements.
- Help restore systems and data when required.
Operational Support & Incident Response
- Provide advanced technical escalation for Azure, VDI, SQL, and on-prem issues.
- Support incident response and long-term remediation tasks.
- Collaborate with IT teams and vendors to maintain stable operations.
Server & Network Administration
- Support Windows Server and Linux environments, including patching and hardening.
- Assist with Active Directory, Group Policy, and identity-related tasks.
- Support network operations and maintain documentation.
Project Support & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with the Infrastructure Team to deliver key infrastructure projects.
- Identify optimisation opportunities across systems.
- Contribute to evaluation and adoption of new tools and technologies.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7+ years’ experience in system administration or infrastructure or similar role.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Awareness of security best practices across cloud and on-prem environments.
- Ability to resolve complex networking issues: VLANs, DHCP, DNS, VPN, WAN and subnetting.
- Azure VMs, VNets, NSGs, routing, firewalls, storage, backup, and monitoring.
- Intune/MDM device management.
- Understanding of Entra ID, SSO, Conditional Access, and Zero Trust principles.
Preferred Requirements
- Familiarity with Azure governance, policies, and security baselines.
- Experience supporting migrations and low-level architectural tasks.
- Experience with Windows Server, Apple Macs and Linux.
- Experience with M365 data migrations or tenant transitions.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration.
- Hands-on experience with backup solutions and DR processes.
- ZTNA experience.
- Scripting or automation tools (PowerShell, CLI, Bash).
