Job brief:
The Weather Company (TWC) is seeking a Senior Meteorologist to join our global forecasting team in Birmingham, UK. As a Senior Meteorologist, you will provide forecast quality control and add value to TWC's global weather data with a strong focus on any global, potentially impactful, weather events. You will also deliver timely products with the accuracy and quality required to meet and exceed customer expectations and convey complex concepts and risk assessments to diverse operational users. This position requires an understanding of airline operations, so experience providing aviation forecasts and briefings is a bonus, but not essential since training will be given.
The impact you'll make:
- Analyze atmospheric data from various sources for the short to medium term (1-10 days).
- Participate in daily weather briefings and discussions involving global synoptic events.
- Use meteorological models and tools to predict weather patterns and conditions.
- Prepare and deliver accurate weather forecasts for various platforms.
- Monitor and assess developing weather conditions for potential severe weather.
- Collect meteorological data using multiple instruments and techniques.
- Conduct detailed analysis of historical weather data to identify trends and patterns.
- Maintain and update weather databases and records.
- Stay updated on advancements in meteorological science and technology.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of advanced weather models and prediction methods.
- Deliver operational forecast content consistently and accurately within rigid time constraints.
- As weather conditions dictate, generate short-fused narratives, forecast discussions, and weather alerts for disruptive weather events within the 0-24 hour forecast domain.
- Generate system-wide risk forecasts for potential impacts to customer assets involving significant weather events including severe thunderstorms, snow and ice, and wind/ tropical systems.
What you've accomplished:
- Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in weather forecasting and data analysis.
- Experience with meteorological software and tools is essential.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
- Proficiency in meteorological software and tools.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Demonstrable organizational, data analysis, data collation, and process management skills.
- Effectively summarize large quantities of data into clear, concise information under rigid time constraints.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and make informed decisions under pressure.
Nice to have:
- Experience forecasting for the aviation industry and writing TAFs.
- Professional certification from a recognized meteorological organization (e.g., American
Meteorological Society) is preferred.
