About the Lifecycle Marketing Tech Team

The Lifecycle Marketing Tech team is part of Thumbtack’s Marketing Technology organization, which builds the systems that power the acquisition and engagement of millions of customers seeking home service professionals. While the broader Marketing Tech org also includes teams focused on Paid Marketing (SEM and O&O channels), the Lifecycle Marketing Tech team owns the platforms that enable personalized, automated, and measurable customer engagement throughout their journey.

With a focus on data, automation, and experimentation, the team develops technology that delivers timely, relevant, and personalized communications — including email campaigns and push notifications — to connect customers with the right content, at the right time, through the right channels.

With continued investments in Marketing Tech, the Lifecycle team is building a foundational Lifecycle platform designed to power more engaging customer experiences through advanced personalization, decisioning, content management, and measurement. These investments will drive growth and help make Thumbtack the #1 destination for customers in need of home care services.

About the role

In this role you will be leading the Lifecycle Marketing Tech software engineering team that is directly responsible for the Lifecycle platform. You will partner with the Product Manager to help define technical & product strategy that include your team’s OKRs (Objectives & Key Results), and will be responsible for driving execution. You will also be responsible for coaching and managing engineers on a full-stack product team. In this role, you’ll not only partner with product, design, data science and marketing leads to develop and execute on a Lifecycle strategy for Thumbtack, but also help build critical infrastructure and systems that power growth and enable the team to move fast.

What you'll do

  • Define and evolve the technical vision & strategy for your team.
  • Effectively collaborate with cross functional counterparts ( applied science, data science) on strategy & execution.
  • Drive team execution against team-specific OKRs.
  • Lead and manage the team as a highly-competent technical leader (not just a people leader), who can help guide complex technical decisions.
  • Hire, coach and manage full-stack engineers at all levels including Staff+ eng.
  • Build and evolve a high performing culture of excellence on the team.
  • Be accountable for maintaining and scaling the infrastructure owned by your team.
  • Work closely with other engineering leaders to evolve and continually improve Thumbtack’s engineering culture in a high paced growth environment.

In order to be successful, you must bring

  • 3+ years of experience in an engineering management role.
  • 5+ years of experience building software at scale.
  • Strong technical skills and is willing to be hands-on with code reviews, debugging, and systems design. 
  • Strong leadership, collaboration and communication skills.
  • Experience shaping technical & product strategy in collaboration with cross functional counterparts (design, product, data science).
  • Experience with decision making using A/B testing. 
  • Commitment to building inclusive teams and team culture.

Expected salary ranges

  • For candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, San Jose, New York City, or Seattle metros, the expected salary range for the role is currently $223,100- $288,800.
  • For candidates living in Austin, TX or Washington DC metros or in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Washington states, the expected salary range for the role is currently $200,900 - $259,900.
  • For candidates living in all other US locations, the expected salary range for this role is currently $212,500 - $275,000.

Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
