About the job
Twilio is looking for an experienced Director, Cybersecurity Counsel to act as Twilio’s first dedicated global cybersecurity legal lead. This role will be part of Twilio’s Privacy team, reporting to Twilio’s Chief Privacy Officer.
Who?
You are a talented and creative attorney who is passionate about working on a broad spectrum of cybersecurity related matters, experienced in managing incidents and supporting the development of cybersecurity risk management programs and privacy too. You have experience advising on cybersecurity for a US listed company with global operations. You must have excellent judgment and writing skills, and be a strong collaborator and influencer.
- Qualified US lawyer with strong academic credentials and demonstrated record of success as a lawyer.
- 8+ years of legal experience, with at least 4+ years in private practice
- Significant experience in cybersecurity, privacy and technology related laws and regulations
- Significant experience in supporting and advising on cybersecurity incidents, including forensics investigations and the use of third party researchers
- Significant knowledge of evolving trends and best practices for privacy and cybersecurity regimes and related experience in advising and supporting government relations and public policy teams
- Demonstrated ability to apply legal and risk analysis to factual circumstances and exercise sound judgment
- Demonstrated experience supporting the development of corporate cybersecurity and privacy programs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated legal writing skill in describing key facts, analyzing legal issues and presenting advice clearly and succinctly to senior executives
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with people at all levels within and outside of the organization
- Ability to manage a large matter load of varying complexity and work efficiently and productively
- Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US or EU) desirable but not essential.
Responsibilities
- The position’s primary responsibility is to act as Twilio’s first dedicated senior legal cybersecurity role
- Provide legal advice and support with respect to existing and new global and state cybersecurity laws and regulations applicable to Twilio’s telecommunications and software business
- Provide support for incident management and advise on related breach notifications
- Provide legal advice and support to Twilio’s Government Relations and Public Policy team in relation to emerging global and state cyber laws and regulations
- Provide advice and support with respect to internal, external or customer cybersecurity audits
- Provide advice and support with respect to formal risk assessments and remediation activities related to cybersecurity, including with respect to third parties
- Provide advice with respect to security provisions in contracts with vendors and other third parties
- Support the creation or amendment of relevant cybersecurity policies and procedures
- Support the development of training, exercises and other activities to promote cybersecurity awareness
- To be a member of Twilio’s Privacy & Security Committee
- Support other legal related aspects of the company’s cybersecurity and privacy compliance programs as needed
Location
This role will be remote but is not eligible to be hired in San Francisco, CA, Oakland, CA, San Jose, CA, Los Angeles, New York, New Jersey or the surrounding areas.

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
- Based in Colorado or Washington D.C.: $199,040 - $248,800
- Based in New York, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $210,720.00 - $263,400.00
- Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $234,160.00 - $292,700.00
- This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are eligible for the following benefits subject to plan requirements: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state.
