Sr Strategic Partnership Manager

The Senior Strategic Partnership Manager (SPM) is a critical role responsible for establishing and expanding Twist Bioscience's market presence within key clinical and OEM accounts. This role focuses on identifying, cultivating, and managing relationships with essential external companies to stimulate mutual growth, innovation, and revenue. The SPM ensures partner objectives align seamlessly with Twist's overall company strategy.

This position requires a strong blend of strategic vision and deal-making expertise, particularly in complex environments. The ideal candidate will build durable relationships that generate mutual value, secure a competitive advantage, and drive long-term strategic differentiation for the company.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead Deal Execution: Act as the primary dealmaker for strategic partnerships, managing the full lifecycle from opportunity assessment and due diligence to financial modeling, negotiation of business terms, and deal closure.
  • Develop Complex Partnerships: Design and negotiate partnership structures that create long-term value by balancing commercial opportunities with risk and operational feasibility.
  • Contract Management: Create and negotiate contracts (including MSAs, SOWs, and SLAs) that outline pricing based on factors like sample volume, forecast models, quality, and operational capacity. Manage the contract lifecycle, including amendments, renewals, and terminations.
  • Internal Alignment: Partner cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, Product, Commercial, R&D, Quality, and other internal teams to guide deals from initial concept through execution and handoff to implementation teams.

Partnership Strategy and Ecosystem Building

  • Market Position: Establish and grow Twist Bioscience's market position by identifying and facilitating business partnerships with biotechnology, diagnostic, and other related companies for the implementation of Twist's technologies.
  • Roadmap Development: Create long-term partnership roadmaps that adapt to evolving company strategy and market dynamics.
  • Frameworks: Develop partnership frameworks to guide comprehensive evaluation, negotiation, and success measurement.
  • Pipeline Management: Build a pipeline of partnership opportunities with clear stages, milestones, and accountability. Ensure opportunities are accurately tracked in SFDC for senior management visibility.
  • Competitive Intelligence: Monitor the competitive landscape and emerging partnership trends to maintain a strategic advantage.

Relationship Management and Growth

  • Executive Relationships: Build and maintain executive-level relationships with current and potential partners, including those in diagnostics, biopharma, and technology.
  • Alliance Management: Support, maintain, and grow existing and newly formed customer relationships, collaborations, and partnerships. Foster customer-focused development.
  • Performance Monitoring: Establish partnership governance (e.g., joint steering committees, business reviews, escalation paths). Develop health metrics and dashboards to monitor performance and identify risks.
  • Partner Success: Own the end-to-end partnership lifecycle from identification through activation and optimization. Build partner success programs that drive engagement, adoption, and mutual value realization.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Culture

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead cross-functional teams, both internal and external, to develop mutually beneficial outcomes and ensure partnership commitments are delivered.
  • Presentations: Present partnership strategy and performance to working groups,  executive teams and key stakeholders.
  • Mentorship: Mentor and develop future partnership leaders within the organization.
  • Collaboration: Work with R&D, Product Team(s) and Field Application Support (FAS) to provide necessary technical support. Collaborate with Marketing on creating product exposure and building the Twist Bioscience brand.

Essential Qualifications

  • A minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in sales, business development, commercial strategy, or partnerships within the life sciences, healthcare, or related industries, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor's degree is required. Master’s degree  in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field; a PhD or MBA is desirable.
  • Strong desire to win business and establish long-term customer relationships.
  • Excellent communication, written, verbal, and presentation/influential skills. The ability to give convincing and persuasive Executive-level presentations is paramount.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member to manage demanding and complex projects smoothly.
  • Deep familiarity with next-generation sequencing (NGS), diagnostics, and healthcare markets and the commercial landscape.
  • Demonstrated scientific problem-solving skills, including an in-depth understanding of requirements diagnostic and  industrial applications to propose solutions during on-site visits.
  • Strong conceptual thinking with the proven ability to anticipate and address ambiguous, high-stakes challenges.
  • Willingness to travel (30-50%), as necessary, to client sites in the Americas and Europe.

The base cash compensation for this California-based role is below. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package. Final compensation amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate skill, experience, expertise, and location and may vary from the amount listed above. Compensation may be different in other locations.

$140,000 - $180,000 USD
