Overview of Opportunity 

Two Six Technologies is seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer to work on multi-domain platforms serving critical national security functions using cutting-edge modern frameworks. Join our team to solve hard problems in large-scale data investigation and analysis, real-time collaboration, task and resource planning and coordination, and high-dimensional data summarization and visualization allowing lay persons to easily answer complex questions.The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, exceptional leadership skills, and a passion for delivering world-class software that meets the highest standards of quality.

The work is hybrid and the selected candidate will work up to 3 days a week in our Arlington, VA office. 

What will you do: 

Drive the end-to-end technical strategy for distributed systems, from architecture and framework selection to implementation and optimization, while leading engineers and enforcing engineering best practices.

  • Partner with technical leadership to improve developer ergonomics, software quality, and security and help enforce engineering policy
  • Enhance operational efficiency by improving processes, implementing scalable solutions, and effectively managing expectations through adept change management
  • Brief technical and programmatic designs, roadmaps, and accomplishments to internal and external audiences
  • Design and implement complex platform architectures including, but not limited to, distributed or decentralized topologies, scalable and efficient data fabric, APIs, message queuing and event streaming, secure authentication and authorization, and containerization and orchestration.
  • Manage developers to deliver capabilities and integrations according to business strategy
  • Play a key role in hiring and mentoring more junior engineers and helping align tasks with their career goals

 

What you need to perform successfully: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and 10+ years in professional software engineering, with at least 5+ years in a systems, platform, or infrastructure leadership role. In lieu of degree, comparable experience will be considered. 
  • Expert level proficiency in one or more prominent languages, such as C/C++, Go, Rust, Python, Java, etc. and the ability to flexibly work across languages as dictated by program requirements
  • Proven experience designing and implementing distributed systems including CAP trade-offs, synchronization strategies, distributed messaging models, and partition tolerance
  • Experience with secure systems design, including public key cryptography, certificate based authentication (mTLS, etc), trust boundaries, and threat modeling
  • Ability to lead a program's architecture and technical direction, including writing and defending design documents, making principled tradeoffs under ambiguity, and mentorship of senior and mid-level engineers. 
  • Demonstrated success in technical proposal writing and white paper production.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a government security clearance up to TS/SCI. 

 Nice If you Have:

  • Experience using Git and Jira in a development workflow.
  • Experience with peer-to-peer decentralized technologies such as libp2p and distributed hash tables.
  • Experience with relational database design and developing applications using Postgres, SQLite, etc.
  • Experience with Pub/Sub messaging systems and distributed logs (Kafka, NATS, etc.)
  • Active TS government security clearance with SCI eligibility.

The projected salary range listed for this position is annualized. This is a general guideline and not a guarantee of salary. Salary is one component of our total compensation package and the specific salary offered is determined by various factors, including, but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills, geographic location, as well as contract specific affordability and organizational requirements.

$179,100 - $268,800 USD
