Purpose of the Position:
The Manager, Career Services is responsible for the daily outcomes and oversight of externship logistics, career readiness instruction, and placement services and related duties. The Manager, Career Services builds and maintains positive and productive relationships with employer partners, students, and graduates that support the efficient and effective implementation of the externship experience, graduate placement, and transition to work. Works collaboratively with all levels of the organization to provide timely career readiness instruction and coaching and to mitigate potential placement challenges. The Associate Manager, Career Services manages all required externship and placement documentation in accordance with organizational policy and accreditation standards.
The Manager, Career Services reports to the Director, Operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Member Leadership
- Build and foster a strong culture of accountability, learning, trust, and high performance with assigned team.
- Onboard, develop, and retain top performers.
- Develop a team with skills and experience aligned to meet UMA’s needs with a focus on retention of top performers.
- Set clear expectations for all Team Members. Analyze goals, activities, and results to determine action plans to improve individual and team performance per stated performance management guidelines.
- Ensure that UMA values are being demonstrated and policies are being followed.
Functional:
- Prepares upcoming externship students with skills and tools needed for a successful externship experience including reviewing rules and regulations, completion of necessary paperwork, and site communication.
- Supports career readiness instruction and coaching including, but not limited to, professional etiquette, communication skills, resume development, job search, application guidance, interviewing, and dress for success.
- Provide graduates with guidance and support to mitigate employment issues and problem solve potential barriers to employment.
- Prepare upcoming externs with completing student file requirements prior to starting externship.
- Maintain and monitor student externship attendance daily to ensure students are documenting consistent hours and pacing at an appropriate rate.
- Provide the education team regular updates regarding extern hours, progress, and issues.
- Maintain up-to-date, accurate data and documentation in required systems of record including immunization records, extern placement site, supervisor name and contact information, completed hours, and other required documents.
- Providing quality assurance checks on students’ final externship files by collecting all required documentation and attendance requirements to ensure students complete required hours.
- Helps students source employment opportunities through cold calling, email, fax, and social media contact with decision makers and hiring managers.
- Manages the population of graduates driving placement services and outcomes.
- Engage in networking with employers to identify employment opportunities with the goal of building and maintaining long-term relationships that yield placements for UMA graduates and future relationship building.
- Prepare for and facilitate graduate interviews with employers, including those with our national Corporate Alliance partnerships
- Maintain timely, compliant, and accurate documentation and metric requirements on all activity related to UMA graduates, employers, job orders and interview results up to and including placement of graduates.
- Plan and implement effective career fairs for students/graduates both virtually and on campus.
- Think and act creatively to assist students and graduates in their employment pursuits.
- Act with integrity to maintain ethical and compliant services while working to achieve graduate success.
Compliance:
- Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures.
- Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.
Work Experience, Skills & Abilities:
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate degree or 1 year of leadership experience
- 5 years of experience in sales, staffing, or customer service
- Able to professionally communicate in verbal and written English.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Skype and Microsoft Teams
- Able to support a diverse and inclusive work environment
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience in employment staffing, career services, out-placement services, or sales experience in the corporate sector.
- Work history showcasing employment stability, two years in previous roles
- Willingness to work in a high-powered, dynamic, energetic, and results-driven campus environment
- Ability to multi-task and handle a high-pressure environment with timeline pressures.
- Experience cold calling in a production driven environment
- Proven track record with professional sales or business development.
- Committed to success, with strong follow-up skills.
- Success in servicing customers in a people-oriented industry.
- Comfortable working independently or in a team environment.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish rapport with a diverse customer base.
Working Environment:
- Office Environment – Must be able to work at the UMA Clearwater Campus
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Physical Demands:
- Requires long periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer
- Requires occasional bending, stooping and squatting
- Requires occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
Anticipated starting salary is based on experience and qualifications.
Compensation Range
$75,400 - $75,400 USD
