Veritas Veterinary Partners is excited to announce that we are looking for a Hospital Director to join our Veterinary Surgical Specialists of Orange County team!  We believe in collective wisdom and a personal practice at Veritas Veterinary Partners.

We are a tight-knit, collegial group of medical professionals who join forces to provide the highest level of both patient and client care possible. We provide emergency services as well as specialty services including Critical Care, Internal Medicine, and we have FIVE boarded Veterinary Surgeons. We collaborate with specialists next door which include Dermatology, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Dentistry, Oncology, Neurology, and Imaging. We serve Orange County and most of Southern California, where we boast the best climate in the country with endless social and cultural opportunities as well as ample beach time!

 

Key Responsibilities

Team

The hospital director will build a high-performing, compassionate and dedicated team, fostering a culture that reflects Veritas’s values of truth, trust and collaboration. Key areas include:

  • Manage para staff: Oversee recruitment, scheduling and performance of paraprofessional staff (e.g., technicians, assistants) to ensure operational excellence.
  • Drive engagement: Foster a positive, inclusive and growth-minded workplace culture that boosts employee satisfaction, retention and productivity.
  • Build a healthy bench for future leaders: Identify and develop high-potential team members for leadership roles through mentorship and succession planning.
  • Create a people-first culture: Cultivate a workplace recognized for its commitment to exceptional care, compassion and innovation in veterinary medicine.
  • Provide training and onboarding: Develop comprehensive training and onboarding programs to equip teammates with skills and knowledge, supporting Veritas’s mentorship-centric culture.

 

Growth

The hospital director will spearhead initiatives to drive case volume, client engagement and strategic expansion, ensuring our hospitals meet market demand and growth targets while upholding Veritas’s commitment to exceptional care. Key areas include:

  • Case volume growth: Develop strategies to increase patient visits and service utilization across specialty and emergency departments; drive your client service representative team to win on the phone through effective client interactions.
  • Call conversions: Optimize call-to-appointment conversion rates through compassionate and efficient client communication.
  • rDVM engagement: Strengthen partnerships with referring veterinarians (rDVMs) to enhance referral volume, foster collaborative trust and ensure we are winning in the community through outreach and relationship-building.
  • Online Reviews: Boost online visibility and conversions through targeted digital marketing, SEO and Google Ads campaigns.
  • New Site Growth: Drive performance in satellite emergency hospitals by creating a growth strategy tailored to these hospitals, optimizing operations and client acquisition.
  • Growth strategy: Formulate a comprehensive growth strategy, leveraging Veritas’s national network for market analysis, service expansion and competitive positioning.
  • DVM estimate conversion: Enhance veterinarian-led estimate acceptance through effective client communication and value-driven strategies.
  • DVM growth model: Develop a scalable model for veterinarian recruitment, retention and productivity to support Veritas’s long-term growth.

Financial Stewardship

The hospital director will ensure financial health by achieving profitability goals, optimizing revenue and controlling costs, aligning with Veritas’s mission to support sustainable growth. Key areas include:

  • Achieve margin goals: Meet or exceed EBITDA and profit margin targets through strategic financial planning and operational efficiency.
  • Price and coding capture: Partner with corporate teams around pricing and coding to develop effective strategies and ensure execution of pricing strategy in hospitals to maximize revenue while maintaining transparency and compliance.
  • Non-DVM labor: Optimize staffing models for non-veterinarian personnel to balance cost, efficiency and quality of care.
  • Non-machine COGS: Manage costs of goods sold (excluding equipment) through effective inventory management and vendor negotiations.
  • Operating expenses (T&E, marketing): Control travel, entertainment and marketing expenses while allocating resources to support growth initiatives.
  • DVM productivity model: Implement a veterinarian productivity model to align clinical output with financial goals, ensuring efficient resource use.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, healthcare management or a related field; MBA or MHA preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare or veterinary practice management, with a proven track record of managing high-revenue operations (e.g., $50M+ EBITDA).
  • Certifications: Certified veterinary practice manager (CVPM) or similar credentials preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strategic leadership and business acumen, with expertise in growth strategy and financial management.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with medical directors, staff and external stakeholders (e.g., rDVMs, clients).
    • Proficiency in data analysis, budgeting and performance metrics to drive operational and financial outcomes.
    • Experience with digital marketing, client engagement and operational scaling in multi-site environments.
    • The ability to foster a collaborative, mission-driven culture that supports Veritas’s network of veterinary professionals.
