The Role:
This position reports to the Vice President of Government Affairs at Versaterm and is a member of a team that plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the company’s government relations and strategic business strategy. This position is assigned as lead for state projects assigned by the Vice President of Government Affairs and manages the strategic business development strategy for the state projects assigned to them. This position involves working closely with government officials, policymakers, and other stakeholders to advocate for the company’s interests and business objectives. The Director of Government Affairs manages outside government affairs resources contracted to assist with the execution of our state strategy and is accountable for achieving business development goals in support of Versaterm’s state initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Government Contracting: Lead the pursuit of new government contracts by identifying opportunities, coordinating with internal teams, and ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Legislative Advocacy: Represent the company before government bodies and officials, advocating for legislation and policies that favor our business interests. Develop and execute advocacy strategies that align with our company's objectives.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with government officials and community leaders, to promote the company’s interests and secure support for various initiatives.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive government relations strategies that integrate with the company's overall business goals.
- Leadership: Oversee a team of external consultants that will assist in advocating issues on behalf of the company; manage and maintain accountability; educate on key issues.
- Coalition Building: Collaborate with industry associations, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders to build coalitions and alliances that amplify the organization's advocacy efforts.
- Reporting and Compliance: Ensure all lobbying activities are reported in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Maintain transparency in all dealings and ensure ethical conduct in all activities.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional departments to coordinate efforts and share insights that inform broader business strategies.
Education, Experience & Abilities:
- A bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, business administration, government relations, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in government affairs, lobbying, or a related role, with a strong understanding of the legislative and state procurement process.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant policy issues and a demonstrated ability to analyze and communicate complex policy matters. Experience in the public safety market is preferred.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with government officials, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and execute effective government affairs strategies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly and persuasively communicate the organization's positions to diverse audiences.
- This position is remote and requires travel as necessary to effectively meet the position requirements.
