Senior Software Engineer, Data & AI/ML

San Francisco, CA

Location: San Francisco, CA (Remote/Hybrid Available)

What is Verse?

Organizations today are under growing pressure to navigate the transition to clean energy — not just to meet sustainability goals, but to manage risk, control costs, and build long-term resilience. Yet the complexity of energy markets and a lack of accessible tools have made it difficult for most companies to take meaningful action. Verse was created to change that.

Our mission is to make the case for clean energy irrefutable. Through our AI-powered platform, Aria, we help organizations plan, procure, and operate clean energy to achieve their financial and sustainability goals. Verse transforms clean energy ambition into action — giving businesses the clarity and confidence to lead in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

The Role

As a Senior Software Engineer focusing on Data & AI/ML at Verse, you will drive the development and implementation of applications and pipelines across a diverse range of data sources including time series, text, and images. You will work closely with our Data Science team deploying energy forecasting and estimation models into production and create tools for structuring and organizing the data that feed these models. As an advanced technical leader in the Python ecosystem, teammates will look to you for best coding standards and conventions.

Additionally, your skills will guide the progression of internal generative AI tools and the evolution of our Aria Assistant product. You will leverage frontier foundation models such as OpenAI GPT, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, and Meta's Llama to build solutions that enhance our capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Foster a culture and mindset of well-designed systems, test-driven software, and transparent communication with a high caliber of mutual respect and consideration for stakeholders
  • Read and write a lot of Python: implementing, maintaining, and promoting best practices and hygiene in our Python code repository for others to follow and emulate
  • Develop, train, test, refine, and deploy forecast models in production
  • Collaborate with our optimization and analytics team members to write shared libraries, design and implement robust solutions intended for high performance with large datasets and complex computations
  • Ensure data quality and integrity throughout the data lifecycle
  • Integrate internal and external user applications with frontier generative AI models
  • Shape and guide the team’s AI/ML strategy with your technical input and execution
  • Occasionally work alongside our platform and infrastructure engineers on various data flows and pipelines to support our product and internal operations

What We're Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)

  • 5+ years of experience delivering production-quality software with increasing levels of ownership and technical leadership.
  • Fluent in Python and expertise with libraries like NumPy, Pandas, and scikit-learn
  • Strong background in statistical analysis and computational mathematics with first principles knowledge of machine learning techniques
  • Fundamental understanding of modern AI/ML technologies and their application in commercial environments.
  • Proficiency in working with large datasets and data processing (streaming and batch) solutions for analytical workloads
  • Technical leadership and commitment to delivering high quality software on time or ahead of schedule, and adhering to best software development practices
  • Discipline using generative AI tools in day-to-day work

What Will Make You Standout (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master’s degree or PhD in a related field
  • Familiarity with cloud-native ecosystem
  • Advanced experience developing and deploying applications built on frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, and proficiency working with natural language processing libraries like spaCy, NLTK, Polyglot, etc
  • Practical knowledge of and hands on experience with model inference, training, retrieval augmented generation (RAG), and fine tuning (e.g. PEFT)
  • Understanding of application-specific architectures such as CUDA, GPUs, and TPUs
  • Familiarity with forecast libraries such Google GraphCast, Nvidia CorrDiff, or Microsoft Aurora, and electricity market simulation tools (e.g. PLEXOS) are a big plus

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
