Engineering Manager, Identity & Shield

ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Engineering Manager for Shield and Platform IAM, you will lead one of VTEX’s most strategic initiatives focused on strengthening the platform’s identity, access management, and security capabilities.

You will guide engineering efforts responsible for core platform capabilities, such as authentication, authorization, and access governance, while supporting the evolution of Shield, VTEX’s security offering that enables advanced protection features for enterprise customers.

In this position, you will lead the modernization of our identity platform using AI and industry best practices, while simultaneously building the future of Shield. Your mission is to unlock new platform functionalities through a robust identity architecture and provide advanced security layers for our most complex global customers.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Manage and mentor two distinct squads (Platform IAM and Shield), ensuring clear career progression and high performance for all team members.
  • Define and consolidate the scope, functionality, and domains of both teams, creating a clear and actionable roadmap.
  • Drive the high-impact modernization of our Identity Platform by incorporating AI-driven capabilities and unlocking new features for internal teams and global customers.
  • Act as the bridge between your squads and key areas—such as Cloud, Checkout, and Payments—ensuring security and identity requirements are integrated seamlessly.
  • Partner with the Product Management team to shape the future vision and strategy for the Shield product line.

WHO YOU ARE

  • You have a strong foundation in Backend Engineering and Distributed Systems. You are comfortable diving deep into technical discussions with senior engineers.
  • You have a proven track record of navigating complex technical environments. 
  • You have a strong background as a manager with experience in performance planning, setting expectations, and building growth paths for engineers.
  • You have a genuine interest in Security and Identity themes (Authentication, Authorization, and Governance).
  • You are hands-on and curious about AI, utilizing LLMs and automation to boost team speed and quality while remaining mindful of safety and responsible use.
  • Fluent english. 

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience leading "Platform-as-a-Product" teams.
  • Specific experience with Security products or IAM frameworks.
