The Role
As an Autonomous Vehicle Test Engineer at Wayve, you’ll be part of an emerging team shaping how we test, validate, and operate our next-generation autonomous vehicles. You’ll play a critical role in developing the team’s processes, ensuring vehicle readiness, and delivering high-quality test operations that enable our engineers to innovate safely and efficiently. This is an exciting opportunity to join at an early stage, help build the foundations of a growing function, and gain exposure across multiple areas of cutting-edge autonomous technology.
Key responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and execute vehicle tests to support development and validation activities.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to understand testing needs and deliver effective support.
- Manage and develop relationships with external suppliers and service partners.
- Establish and improve team processes, documentation, and best practices for testing operations.
- Support vehicle preparation, maintenance, and readiness for test activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement as the team grows, taking on broader responsibilities across testing, data, and systems integration.
About you
In order to set you up for success as an Autonomous Vehicle Test Engineer at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proficient in using CANalyzer, CANoe, or similar tools for vehicle network analysis and diagnostics.
- Comfortable following update and configuration procedures across various tools and operating systems, including Linux, Windows, and SSH-based environments.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Experienced in using JIRA, XRay, or equivalent systems for issue tracking, test management, and documentation.
- Proactive and improvement-focused, with the ability to identify opportunities to enhance team processes, tools, and workflows.
- Familiar with proving ground environments and experienced in executing structured vehicle test cases.
- Capable of reviewing, creating, and adhering to Risk Assessments to ensure all testing activities are conducted safely and responsibly.
- Able to interpret technical requirements and translate them into clear, actionable test cases and validation plans.
- Solid understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements within the automotive industry or similar safety-critical domains.
- Knowledge of vehicle instrumentation, data logging, and calibration tools (e.g. Vector tools, ETAS, Racelogic).
- Ability to analyse test data and communicate findings clearly to engineering and programme teams.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience working with autonomous vehicle systems, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), or related technologies.
- Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, or similar scripting tools for data processing and automation.
- Understanding of vehicle networks (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) and diagnostic protocols (UDS, OBD-II).
- Experience contributing to continuous improvement of test methods, safety procedures, or operational efficiency.
- Exposure to hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) or software-in-the-loop (SiL) testing environments.
- Knowledge of functional safety standards (e.g. ISO 26262) or safety management processes.
- Awareness of data management and version control systems (e.g. Git, Jenkins, or similar).
