Position Overview

The Database Administrator (DBA) role at Zennioptical will be pivotal in managing, optimizing, and securing enterprise data across on-premise and cloud environments. Bring innovation into our data management practices; this role requires a strong focus on automation, DevOps integration, and adherence to contemporary IT security standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Database Management & Performance Optimization
    • Installation & Upgrades: Install, configure, and upgrade database servers and applications on-premise and in the cloud.
    • Replication and Data Consistency:  Maintain and manage database replication to ensure data consistency across systems
    • Performance Tuning: Monitor and optimize database performance using modern analytics and automated tuning tools to enhance efficiency.
    • Backup & Recovery: Develop and execute robust backup and disaster recovery procedures and policies.
  • System Administration & Maintenance
    • Setup & Configuration: Install and configure Linux OS and services
    • User & Access Management: Create and manage users, groups, and permissions.  
    • Monitoring & Maintenance: Monitor system performance and logs. 
    • Automation: Automate tasks using cron jobs and shell scripts
  • Cloud & Hybrid Environment Expertise
    • Cloud Integration: Migrate, integrate, and manage cloud-based databases across platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
    • Scalability & High Availability: Design and implement solutions that ensure scalability and high availability (HA) with automated failover and load balancing.
  • Automation & DevOps Collaboration
    • CI/CD Pipelines: Collaborate with development teams to integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines.
    • Infrastructure as Code: Utilize automated tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) to manage database infrastructure.
    • Monitoring & Analytics: Implement proactive monitoring tools for automated issue detection and resolution.
  • Security & Compliance
    • Data Security: Enforce best practices in data encryption, access controls, and compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
    • Vulnerability Management: Conduct regular security audits and implement vulnerability management protocols.
    • Change Management: Ensure that all database changes maintain proper version control and undergo a thorough risk assessment.
  • Data Integration & Management
    • Data Governance: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish and maintain data governance and quality standards.
    • Big Data & Analytics: Engage with data analysts and engineers to support analytical environments, including NoSQL and distributed systems.
  • Documentation & Collaboration
    • Policy Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for configuration, processes, and disaster recovery protocols.
    • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for database-related issues and collaborate closely with IT, developers, and business users.

Basic Qualification

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent job experience.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in a DBA role in a dynamic, modern data environment.

  • Proven expertise with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).

  • 3+ years of Linux system administration experience (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL).

  • Strong programming skills with a focus on PHP, Python, or Perl for backend development and automation.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in cloud database platforms such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL, and Google Cloud SQL.

  • Experience with automation and orchestration tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins).

  • Expertise in performance database tuning, replication, and disaster recovery.

  • Proficiency in both relational and sequential database systems, with hands-on experience in at least one: MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server; familiarity with SQLite or Berkeley DB.

  • Demonstrated experience managing a complete LAMP stack.

  • Proficiency in T-SQL stored procedures, complex queries, and scripting in PHP, PowerShell, or Perl.

  • Hands-on experience with installation, configuration, patching, database upgrade/migration, including high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) implementations.

Security & Compliance Knowledge:

  • Deep understanding of security best practices, encryption and hashing methodologies, and regulatory compliance frameworks.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Adaptability to rapidly evolving technologies and environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of SSRS, SSIS, and SSAS.

  • Certifications such as AWS Certified Database – Specialty, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, or similar.

In addition to other forms of compensation like perks and benefits, the estimated range for this role is $86,600 - 108,500 USD. The final offer will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skill set, experience, geographical location, market conditions, and other organizational needs. The Company reserves the right to change, modify, or revisit the salary range for various reasons including business needs
