Director, Solutions Engineering
A Snapshot
Reporting to the VP of Customer Solutions, as the Director of Solutions Engineering, you will play a critical role in shaping AirTrunk’s customer engagement, technical solutions, and cross-functional collaboration. You will lead a team of engineers and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver innovative, best-in-class solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Engagement & Technical Leadership
- Build and maintain strong customer and industry relationships to understand current and future requirements.
- Translate customer needs into actionable business roadmaps and technical solutions.
- Engage customers on their technical solutions, providing guidance and addressing challenges.
- Schedule and coordinate customer meetings and events to ensure seamless communication.
- Solution Development & Innovation
- Research and introduce emerging ICT trends and technologies to enhance solution designs.
- Develop high-level space planning and engineering solutions tailored to customer needs.
- Manage the RFP process, from requirements gathering to delivering key technical documents.
- Produce and manage technical sales collateral, including presentations, schematics, and reports.
- Drive solution optioneering by evaluating various technical and commercial options for customers.
- Develop cost models and provide insights into the commercial implications of engineering decisions.
Project Management & Implementation
- Oversee project timelines, priorities, and deliverables to ensure high-quality execution.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align project goals and technical requirements.
- Identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and maintain accountability for project outcomes.
- Act as a key stakeholder in the design and construction phases, ensuring alignment with customer expectations.
- Supervise implementation, address engineering challenges, and lead commissioning efforts.
Design Review & Cost Optimization
- Review designs for cost-saving opportunities and ensure efficient, scalable solutions.
- Develop and review engineering documentation from concept through construction phases.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and coach a team of Solutions Engineers to foster professional growth and technical excellence.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, provide feedback, and support career development plans.
- Manage performance reviews, set clear goals, and promote continuous learning.
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Partner with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure customer solutions align with broader business objectives.
- Act as an escalation point for technical challenges, fostering collaboration to drive solutions.
Resource & Capacity Planning
- Manage resource allocation and identify hiring needs to support business growth.
- Optimize team workflows and implement process improvements to enhance productivity.
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams across multiple geographies.
- Strong commercial acumen to assess the financial impact of engineering decisions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly.
- Expertise in data center design
- Experience in developing technical documentation, cost models, and sales collateral.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably electrical, mechanical or telecoms engineering
- Experience working for a data centre operator is a benefit
Leadership & Communications Skills
- Strong communication skills are a must – written, presentation, verbal at all levels
- Customer centric approach – listen, understand, manage expectations and ensure delivery to them
- Ability to prepare reports suitable for external distribution
- Ability to deliver effective presentations on data centre operations to customers, peers and management
- Ability to manage with positive influence and motivate customers to obtain desired levels of performance
- Ability to understand the need to place the team’s, company’s or customer’s goal over personal individual goals.
- Proven experience in managing and scaling engineering teams.
- Ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to express ideas clearly in written and verbal communications with strong attention to detail.
- Organisational skills and ability to multitask alongside the capability to influence as well as collaborate are key.
