Principal Consultant / Head of AI

About Us

AlleyCorp Nord is a boutique consultancy building at the intersection of AI and healthcare. We solve challenging human problems by applying cutting-edge technology and domain understanding.

About the role

This is a director-level position with both external, client-facing, and internal responsibilities. In this role, you will be the most senior technical leader for our overall AI and data science practice, and set and represent the company’s technical vision as pertains to AI. You will spend the majority of your time working with clients, whether as part of a team or independently. You will also spend a significant portion of your time participating in sales cycles and representing the company at events (conferences, etc).

Your work will consist of:

  • Billable client work (~50% of the time), which might include:
    • Serving as technical lead and architect on client project teams, working closely with clients, project managers, product designers, software developers, and generally interdisciplinary teams — in these engagements, you will be expected to be hands-on.
    • Solo hands-on work — e.g. doing advisory research for clients, creating proofs-of-concept, occasionally contributing production-ready code to client and internal projects.
  • Working with our sales and business development team to grow the business by leading technical discussions in sales cycles, contributing to marketing materials, and attending events.
  • Working with business development and marketing to articulate the company’s vision and achievements as pertains to AI and data science; contributing to written materials, participating in events, and otherwise representing the company.
  • Mentoring our most senior technical team members and providing guidance to our AI practice guild.
  • Leading internal working groups on AI and data science practices and standards to be deployed across our projects; collaborating with other senior data scientists and AI engineers to ensure the quality of project delivery.
  • Collaborating with software development and design leadership to identify opportunities for our AI teams to create additional leverage, e.g. via internal projects and new services.

About you

We are seeking a seasoned technical leader who loves solving business problems with AI. You thrive on understanding the most cutting edge technology — while still being pragmatic about its reasonable applications. This is an individual contributor role, but we expect you to have impact across teams and be able to lead projects. This is also, crucially, a very external-facing role.

You should have:

  • A proven track record of technical leadership.
  • Broad experience in data science and AI, across multiple different subfields (e.g. from NLP to computer vision).
  • A strong sense of the economics and business value of AI solutions.
  • An academic background in AI or a related field.
  • 8+ years overall experience as a technology professional, ideally across different types of roles (e.g. research, applied research, product).
  • Must have exceptional leadership and communication skills.
  • Must have strong French language presentation, technical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work comfortably with American clients.

We would love for you to have some exposure to healthcare (clinical operations, medical devices, pharma, etc.), since that is our primary area of focus, but it’s a nice to have.

We typically hire generalists. In this role, we are expecting you to be primarily an AI and data science specialist but have a strong interest in helping generalists learn about AI and an affinity for adjacent domains — namely design and engineering.

All of job postings describe a bit of a unicorn. If you’re kind of a “narwhal,” please apply anyway. You don’t need to meet all the requirements, let alone the bonus criteria. While experience and skill sets are valuable, growth potential and attitudes are equally important. We are usually flexible on levels or can advise you when a more relevant posting opens.

What we offer

We are a remote-first company with office space in Montreal. We prefer to hire in Quebec, but we are open to candidates anywhere in the EST±2 time zone in Canada.

Some of our benefits — ask us for more details during the interview process!

  • Home office/technology budget;

  • From Day 1 — 100% employer-paid health & dental insurance including a yearly bank of coverage for complementary medicine (Acupuncture, osteopathy, massage therapy, naturopathy, psychology, etc.); Life, long & short-term disability insurance.
  • After 1 year — company RRSP matching and profit-sharing participation.
