Job Summary
We are seeking an Expert Database Administrator (DBA) specializing in Microsoft SQL Server to provide technical Support for Microsoft Databases and Application Servers, optimize, and maintain mission-critical database environments. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in SQL Server administration, performance tuning, high availability, and security, along with experience working in Microsoft technology stacks, including Azure SQL and related cloud services.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Architecture
- Design, deploy, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases (on-premises, hybrid, and Azure SQL).
- Ensure database scalability, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) strategies are in place.
- Perform database upgrades, migrations, and patch management.
Performance Tuning & Optimization
- Conduct query tuning, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis to improve performance.
- Optimize database configurations, storage, and resource allocation.
- Implement automated performance monitoring and alerting solutions.
Security & Compliance
- Implement role-based access control (RBAC) and database security best practices.
- Ensure data encryption, auditing, and compliance with industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 27001).
- Manage SQL Server Always Encrypted, Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), and Data Masking.
Backup, Recovery & High Availability
- Develop and maintain SQL Server Backup & Recovery strategies using native and third-party tools.
- Implement Always On Availability Groups, Log Shipping, Database Mirroring, and Failover Clustering.
- Perform disaster recovery testing and ensure business continuity plans are up to date.
Automation & Cloud Integration
- Automate database administration tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, and SQL Agent Jobs.
- Manage and optimize Azure SQL Database, Azure Managed Instances, and SQL on Virtual Machines.
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with developers, system administrators, and DevOps teams to support application performance and deployment.
- Provide expert-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis for database-related incidents.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation for database configurations, policies, and procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server administration (SQL Server 2016, 2019, 2022).
- Expertise in T-SQL, query tuning, stored procedures, and indexing strategies.
- Strong experience in HA & DR solutions (Always On, Log Shipping, Mirroring, Clustering).
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Integration Services (SSIS), and Analysis Services (SSAS).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure SQL, Azure Managed Instances, and cloud-based SQL solutions.
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and database management.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines with SQL Server (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to database performance.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified: SQL Server Database Engineer.
- Experience with containerized SQL Server instances using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of big data technologies in the Microsoft ecosystem (Azure Data Lake, Synapse Analytics).
