Principal Cloud Engineer / Architect

Amtech is building the next generation of secure, scalable, and intelligent cloud platforms to power our products and enterprise systems. We’re looking for a Principal Cloud Engineer / Architect who will play a key role in shaping Amtech’s cloud strategy, architecture, and engineering practices.

In this role, you’ll combine strong hands-on technical skills with the ability to guide others, share knowledge, and help teams grow. You’ll design frameworks and automation approaches that make cloud environments secure, reliable, and efficient. You’ll also mentor cloud engineers across the U.S. and India, contributing to a supportive, learning-focused engineering community.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Architecture & Strategy

• Develop and maintain Amtech’s enterprise cloud architecture, balancing innovation, performance, security, and cost.
• Design and guide implementation of multi-account AWS environments with guardrails, identity boundaries, and automation.
• Promote cloud-native approaches (containers, serverless, managed services) across product and platform teams.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and help set standards for Infrastructure-as-Code, observability, and DevSecOps.
• Partner with Product, Security, and Infrastructure leaders to align cloud roadmaps with business goals.

Technical Leadership & Delivery

• Lead collaborative design reviews, performance improvement efforts, and learning-focused postmortems.
• Create reusable automation frameworks for provisioning, deployment, and environment management (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK).
• Build governance and compliance automation (policy-as-code, drift detection, security scanning).
• Provide guidance on cost optimization, resiliency, and architecture patterns for multi-region or hybrid environments.
• Serve as a technical resource for complex challenges, helping teams learn and problem-solve effectively.

Mentorship & Collaboration

• Support and mentor engineers at all levels, encouraging continuous learning and skill development.
• Model a collaborative, inclusive approach to DevOps culture and reliability engineering.
• Contribute to internal communities of practice and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Work closely with global peers to maintain consistency in cloud standards, tooling, and processes.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in cloud or infrastructure engineering, with at least 4 years in senior or architectural roles.
• Hands-on experience with AWS (networking, security, compute, storage, and managed services).
• Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK) and scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
• Experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, Argo CD, Jenkins, or GitLab CI).
• Understanding of secure and compliant architectures aligned to ISO 27001, SOC 2, or similar frameworks.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or equivalent certification.
• Experience with multi-region, multi-cloud, or hybrid environments.
• Familiarity with FinOps, cost management, and sustainability practices.
• Exposure to AI/ML, data pipeline, or analytics workloads in cloud environments.
• Experience in SaaS or regulated industries.
