Engineer, Mass Properties
Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise.

This position is intended to be based in our HQ in San Jose, CA, and strong preference will be given to candidates that are willing to work from this location. An exception to allow remote or hybrid work arrangement may be considered on a case by case basis.
What You’ll Do:
As a Staff Level Mass Properties Engineer you will:
- Define, own, and manage our Mass Properties program plan, process for tracking and reporting weight and balance data
- Define and build our mass properties database supporting all aircraft and their variants
- Track vehicle mass, CG, and inertia throughout the product development cycle
- Manage data maturity, and identify/manage risks related to weight and balance
- Work with our design teams and suppliers to collect data and manage margins, risks, and opportunities, and coordinate mass reduction initiatives
- Lead and coordinate Mass Properties maturity progression, including oversight of parametric and estimated mass and measurement and audit of actuals
- Integrate effectively with consumers of W&B data
- Identify tool and process improvements and enablers that simplify and automate data collection, analysis, and reporting
- Effectively communicate status to leadership and the rest of the team in real-time
- Support FAA certification activities
What You Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related STEM field; and
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience as a Mass Properties Engineer on a development program
- Experience with weighing aircraft, creating and publishing FAA compliant reports, communicating technical data,
- Experience working with multiple teams and suppliers to develop weight requirement and control plan
- Experience executing a weight and balance program on a complex dynamic system (preferably aircraft)
- Experience in defining tools and processes
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience establishing and implementing an effective weight and balance program for a development aircraft
- Experience with NX, Solidworks, CATIA, or similar CAD tool, for conducting drawing and 3D model reviews
- Experience conducting physical aircraft inspections
- Experience working on type certification of an aircraft from start to finish under 14 CFR Part 23 or Part 27
- Worked on different phases of ARP4754A development programs

We drive a pay-for-performance culture and reward performance that supports the Company’s business strategy. For this position we are targeting a base pay between $151,680 - $189,600. Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
