As a Website Tech Lead, you will play a critical role in the development, optimization, and maintenance of Axi's digital ecosystem, ensuring high availability, performance, scalability, and exceptional user experiences across all web properties.

Working closely with the Head of Digital Strategy and Head of Performance, you will lead the technical direction of our web platforms while remaining hands-on in development. This role combines technical leadership with people management, requiring you to mentor and support a team of front-end developers while driving the delivery of innovative, scalable, and high-performing web solutions.

You will be responsible for championing modern development practices, shaping the web technology roadmap, and ensuring our websites continue to deliver best-in-class digital experiences for our global audience.

Technical Leadership & Development

  • Develop and maintain high-quality web applications using Next.js and Strapi, with a strong focus on performance, scalability, maintainability, and user experience.
    • Contribute to and help shape the web application roadmap, advocating modern development standards, architectural best practices, and testing methodologies.
    • Design and implement scalable front-end architectures using Next.js, leveraging Server-Side Rendering (SSR), Static Site Generation (SSG), and modern web technologies.
    • Collaborate with Product, Design, Marketing, Performance, and Technology teams to define, develop, and deploy new features and enhancements across multiple web platforms.
    • Provide technical leadership on Strapi CMS architecture, including content modelling, API customisation, workflow optimisation, and plugin integrations.
    • Monitor website performance, identify opportunities for optimisation, and proactively resolve issues affecting usability, accessibility, SEO, and conversion.
    • Drive adoption of testing best practices using Jest, Cypress, unit testing, integration testing, and automated quality assurance processes.
    • Maintain and improve technical documentation, development standards, and engineering best practices.
    • Participate in architectural discussions and collaborate with internal technology teams on strategic technical initiatives.

Team Leadership & People Management

  • Manage, mentor, and support a team of front-end developers, fostering a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture.
    • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure high standards of code quality, maintainability, and security.
    • Support team members in solving complex technical challenges and encourage continuous learning and professional development.
    • Assist with workload planning, prioritisation, resource allocation, and delivery management in alignment with business objectives.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging the adoption of emerging technologies, development practices, and testing standards.
    • Act as a key liaison between stakeholders and the development team, ensuring alignment on priorities, timelines, and technical solutions.
    • Promote knowledge sharing and technical excellence across the wider technology and digital teams.

 

Are you the one?

Industry Knowledge & Experience

  • 7+ years of professional web development experience, with at least 3 years in a technical leadership, lead developer, or engineering leadership capacity.
    • Proven experience delivering modern, customer-facing web applications using React and Next.js.
    • Strong experience leading development teams and mentoring engineers.
    • Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
    • Demonstrated success managing complex digital projects involving multiple stakeholders.
    • Experience in fintech, financial services, online trading, or other highly regulated industries will be considered a strong advantage.
    • Experience owning technical roadmaps and influencing architectural decisions is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Expert-level proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript.
    • Strong commercial experience with React, Next.js, and modern front-end architecture patterns.
    • Hands-on experience with Strapi CMS, including content modelling, API development, plugin integrations, and customisation.
    • Strong experience implementing automated testing frameworks, including Jest and Cypress.
    • Experience with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and headless architecture principles.
    • Solid understanding of Server-Side Rendering (SSR), Static Site Generation (SSG), SEO optimisation, accessibility standards, and responsive design.
    • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, release management, and modern software development workflows.
    • Familiarity with Docker, cloud platforms, and modern deployment environments.
    • Strong understanding of web performance optimisation, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
    • Experience establishing development standards, code quality frameworks, and engineering best practices.

  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing engineering teams.
    • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities.

    • Demonstrated experience conducting code reviews and maintaining engineering standards.
    • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
    • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills in a fast-paced environment.
