Overview
Axle is looking to add a driven, flexible, organized, and meticulous Biologist to our dynamic team. The Contractor(s) shall provide services in support of the overall functions of the Vaccine Research Center (VRC), Vaccine Production Program (VPP).
Technical Requirements:
- Execute formulation and stability studies within a project development team under guidance of the team leader, including
- Independent generation of samples using both standard and advanced study specific analytical methods.
- Submission for external analytical testing.
- Independent analysis of analytical sample data.
- Analysis and trending of overall study data with team members.
- Presentation of study data
- Coordinate and execute assay development studies for vaccine and biotherapeutic characterization under the guidance of senior personnel, including
- Independent generation and analysis of samples using both standard and advanced study specific analytical methods.
- Independent analysis of analytical sample data.
- Collation, analysis, and trending of study data.
- Presentation of study data
- Support preparation of protocols documenting formulation, stability, and method development studies.
- Prepare technical reports documenting formulation, stability, and method development studies, which may include including drafting, editing, and verification of data.
- Contribute to professional manuscripts based on results of formulation, stability, and method development studies, as needed.
- Oversee external service and execute routine maintenance and troubleshooting for one or more pieces of laboratory instrumentation.
- Comply with all NIH and VPP policies.
Specific Qualifications:
- B.S. or MS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline is required.
- 1 year (minimum) industry, government or equivalent experience in protein formulation or a related field (Master’s thesis may fulfill this requirement).
- Hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: protein/vaccine formulation, protein/vaccine stability, biophysical characterization, bioanalytical development.
- Hands-on experience with one or more of the following techniques: UV-visible, fluorescence, Circular Dichroism and/or IR spectroscopy; Differential Scanning Calorimetry; Particle characterization (light scattering, HIAC and/or MFI).
- Experience with data analysis using standard software platforms (Excel, Prism, SigmaPlot, etc.).
- Knowledge of the structural properties of proteins.
- Good written, oral, and visual communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or other equivalent software suites.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good time management skills.

This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range listed below. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location.
