In this role, you will design, deploy, and scale voice networks that power Bandwidth’s customers and internal business units across multiple global data centers and cloud environments, ensuring reliability, scalability, and automation.

What You'll Do:

  • Design and lead voice network initiatives, implementing next-generation architectures while driving automation, scalability, and optimization.
  • Advance innovation across the voice network stack—from Core Voice services to the Network Border—by enhancing performance, resiliency, and automation frameworks.
  • Collaborate with Network and Infrastructure teams to establish standards, implement tooling, and drive engineering best practices.
  • Partner with Network, Systems, and Software teams to ensure seamless deployment of new designs and networking tools, focusing on automation and continuous optimization.
  • Collaborate with automation teams to design and implement a programmable voice networking platform that enhances scalability, efficiency, and self-healing capabilities.

  • Develop simple, scalable, and repeatable network solutions that improve reliability, efficiency, and technological innovation.
  • Collaborate with vendors to evaluate technologies, assess products, and align network strategy with business and engineering objectives.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for complex voice network incidents, conducting deep technical analysis, developing long-term solutions, and strengthening network resilience.
  • Be part of a 24x7 on-call rotation, ensuring fast response to critical voice network incidents.

What You Need:

  • 6+ years of experience in voice network engineering/architecture, designing, building, and supporting edge, core, and cloud-based voice infrastructures.
  • 6+ years of experience working with service provider networks, including Session Border Controllers (SIP, RTP, RTCP), Gateways (SS7, ISUP, SCTP), and open-source telephony solutions.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in network hardware and data center infrastructure, with expertise in vendor ecosystems, implementation best practices, and telecommunications networking (core, edge, telephony).
  • 4+ years of experience in scripting and automation for large-scale telecom and voice networks, using Python, Perl, Bash, with expertise in NetDevOps, API/tooling development, and open-source contributions.
  • Experience with cloud-scale CSP platforms such as AWS, GCP, and Azure, integrating voice network solutions into cloud-based architectures.
  • Proven ability to define and document complex technical solutions, including PoC/Test reports, standardization strategies, and automation frameworks to drive efficiency.
  • Deep expertise in scalable global telecommunications networks, with a strong understanding of open networking trends, next-generation hardware, software, and platform architectures.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical strategies to senior management, using data-driven insights.
  • Willingness to participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation, including occasional weekend and holiday coverage.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with network orchestration, automation frameworks, or Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Kubernetes.
  • Background in AI-driven voice network optimization, predictive analytics, or network observability platforms.
  • Contributions to open-source telecom or networking projects (e.g., Asterisk, Kamailio, OpenSIPS, FreeSWITCH).
  • Hands-on experience designing cloud-native voice architectures/platforms, including serverless VoIP solutions and programmable voice APIs.
  • Experience working with carrier interconnects, CLEC operations, or regulatory compliance (e.g., STIR/SHAKEN, E911, FCC/Ofcom regulations).
  • Prior experience in vendor RFPs, technology assessments, and roadmap alignment for large-scale telecom deployments.
