Lead Payroll Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Lead Payroll Specialist to lead and manage all aspects of our organization's payroll operations. This critical role ensures our payroll processes are accurate, timely, and compliant with all relevant federal, state, and local laws. The ideal candidate will handle multi-state payroll, conduct thorough audits, and collaborate effectively with HR and Finance teams on payroll-related functions and reporting. This position also acts as a key resource and mentor for junior payroll staff.

This is an in-office role, 4 days a week, based in North Hills.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process end-to-end payroll for employees, including salaried, hourly, and commission-based employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Perform detailed audits and reconciliations of payroll information, verifying elements like hours, tax deductions, and benefits contributions.
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure employee data, such as new hires, terminations, salary changes, and benefits enrollment, is accurate and up to date.
  • Uphold accurate and organized payroll records in line with company standards and legal requirements.
  • Promptly respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees, providing guidance on pay issues, deductions, and tax-related matters.
  • Generate and distribute payroll reports to internal teams and external parties as needed.
  • Support critical year-end processes, such as W-2 form preparation and annual financial reconciliations.
  • Maintain adherence to all applicable labor laws, tax codes, and internal control procedures.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Finance departments on payroll audits and data analysis.
  • Provide guidance, training, and oversight to junior payroll staff, ensuring the accuracy of their work.
  • Proactively identify and implement improvements to payroll procedures and system efficiencies.
  • Assist with any special payroll projects or initiatives as required.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a similar discipline is favored.
  • Minimum of 8+ years experience in payroll processing, including at least 2 years in a senior or leadership capacity.
  • Competency with payroll platforms (experience with Paylocity a plus).
  • Comprehensive understanding of payroll best practices, tax legislation, and wage and hour regulations.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Keen attention to detail and the capacity to manage sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong skills in analysis and problem resolution.
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) designation is a plus but not mandatory.

To comply with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share base pay ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location.

For full time hires, the hiring hourly compensation range for this position is between $86,000 - $102,000. Blend benefits and perks are described below. 

Final pay offer amounts will vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to function, level, geographic location, job related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay will be adjusted for part-time roles to reflect scheduled hours.
