Senior Backend Engineer, Content Creation

Why Box needs you:

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Content Creation team, you will be at the forefront of real time applications within Box. Being one of the core applications, we are one of the first stops customers make when using Box platform. You will play an integral role in paving the future path for what it means to generate content within Box.

The Content Creation team owns Notes and Canvas products of Box's platform. The functionality that this team builds is used by our largest cohorts of users (versus just admin users). They are the only true real-time service at Box, using web sockets to deliver a real-time editing product. It's a complex problem space that we are experts in, and it's a great team to join if you want to contribute to creating one of the most vital Box products. The team is mostly developing Front-End with React.js, for Back-End tasks they use mostly Node.js.

What you’ll do:

• Develop high-quality, scalable, and responsive software using modern technologies.

• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code using industry best practices.

• Partner with cross-functional teams to onboard, share knowledge, and align on current responsibilities and priorities

• Participate in regular team meetings and manager 1:1s to ensure alignment, growth, and continuous improvement

• Create clear technical documentation, reusable patterns, and examples to scale knowledge across engineering teams

• Leverage AI tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor) to accelerate development, research, documentation, and bug triage while maintaining high standards of quality and security

• Represent and advocate for Box Poland’s engineering excellence both internally and externally

• Maintain and support one or more legacy codebases

• Contribute to defining and implementing engineering standards across product teams

• Participate in our on-call rotation, available at all times while on-call to help respond to and triage any issues that arise.

Who you are:

• 6+ years of professional software development experience.

• Strong coding skills with demonstrated proficiency in Node.js + TypeScript for backend

• Experience designing and implementing APIs and distributed services; solid grasp of system design and data modeling.

• Proven ability to design, build, and deploy high-quality software in cloud environments

• Expertise HTML/CSS, and at least one modern frontend framework (e.g., React); strong understanding of state management, accessibility, performance, and security basics.

• Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, software design principles, and object-oriented programming.

• Passionate about new technologies with the capability to implement them in existing products.

• Demonstrate ownership mentality and strives for excellence in both technical work and team interactions.

• Proficient in English.

Nice to have:

• Experience with Google Cloud Platform and/or Amazon Web Services.

• Experience with Web sockets and real-time applications

• Experience contributing to cross-platform solutions as part of a team

Tech Stack:

• Backend: Node.js + TypeScript, some PHP, DB: BigTable

• Frontend: React.js + TypeScript

• Infra: Google Cloud Platform (240 pods, 3 regions)

• Other: websockets, real-time editing and collaboration (ProseMirror / TipTap), low-latency and high-availability

Box lives its values, with community and in-person collaboration being a core part of our culture.
