Software Design Engineer in Test - Hardware Testing

In This Role
As a Lab/Test Engineer, you will work hands-on with next-generation security and server hardware technologies deployed across large-scale cloud environments. This position blends development, testing, and hardware validation, giving you the opportunity to collaborate with highly skilled engineers while contributing to open-source projects and internal hardware innovation. The role is 80% technical execution, with the remainder spent in meetings and reporting, offering both depth and breadth of engineering impact.
Responsibilities

Configure, deploy, and manage test environments across Windows Server and Ubuntu Server platforms.

Develop, refine, and execute test plans and test cases for server-class hardware and system components.

Perform repeatable testing procedures to validate triggers, stored procedures, system specifications, and hardware performance.

Write and interpret code in languages such as C++, Python, and batch/Perl scripts to support test automation and problem resolution.

Design and maintain automated test harnesses with focus on system-level and inter-system validation.

Troubleshoot and diagnose hardware and software issues, including threading, performance bottlenecks, and intermittent system failures.

Collaborate with development teams to improve functionality, test coverage, and defect resolution.

Generate detailed test reports and provide actionable insights to stakeholders.

Leverage CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or equivalent) to integrate testing into ongoing development cycles.

Contribute to open-source or internal code reviews as part of team-wide quality assurance practices.
Required Qualifications

7+ years of experience testing data center/server hardware in cloud-scale or enterprise environments.

7+ years of development experience with C++ and scripting with Python.

2+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar).

Strong knowledge of Windows Server and Linux (Ubuntu) administration and testing practices.

Experience configuring, deploying, and managing hosts and virtual test machines.

Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle and software quality assurance practices.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and diagnostic skills.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent technical experience).
Preferred Qualifications

Rust development experience.

Contributions to open-source projects.

Familiarity with networking fundamentals and internet protocols.

Hands-on knowledge of database programming (SQL Server, Oracle, Informix, DB2, etc.).

Experience with hardware diagnostics and low-level system debugging.

Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects with flexibility and adaptability.
Salary
Pay ranges vary based on multiple factors including, without limitation, skill sets, education, responsibilities, experience, and geographical market. The pay range for this position reflects geographic based ranges for Washington state: $100,000 to $120,000 USD/annually. The salary/wage and job title for this opening will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience and may be outside this range.
