About the Position:

The Director of Energy reports to the Chief Energy Strategy Officer, with primary responsibilities focused on developing and executing Cologix’s energy strategy in key markets. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team with a big mission in a rapidly growing industry. The role is uniquely positioned to drive innovation and collaboration across the data center and energy sectors and deliver on energy initiatives to meet Cologix’s aggressive near and long-term growth plans.

The ideal candidate will bring energy industry experience coupled with innovative thinking and passion to position Cologix to lead the data center industry in solving energy challenges. This role will combine both strategy and execution to realize our business goals, working collaboratively across multiple teams.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports Chief Energy Strategy Officer in overall energy strategy development and execution with a focus on our key US and Canadian markets.
  • Develops innovative energy solutions with a deep understanding of the changing energy industry dynamics in both regulated and unregulated markets.
  • Develops strategic partnerships with utilities, OEMs, EPCs and energy companies to select partners and advance energy initiatives. Understands utility organizational dynamics and processes to position Cologix for success. 
  • Identifies electric industry organizations for Cologix to participate in and represents Cologix in high level policy discussions with industry groups such as the Data Center Coalition (DCC) and Edison Electric Institute (EEI).
  • Negotiates and executes power agreements with utilities managing multiple internal and external stakeholders, ensuring senior leadership alignment, risk management and achieving business outcomes for Cologix.
  • Evaluates and executes potential on-site power generation opportunities in partnership with the Cologix development team. Understands the relative pros/cons of each technology, execution steps, potential partners and timelines to develop and execute projects.   
  • Performs technology assessments and partner selections for strategy development and execution of key energy projects.
  • Advised the executive team on energy industry trends and adapting our strategy to realize near/long-term objectives in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.
  • Supports the development of board presentations and data and analytics to inform strategic business decisions.
  • Supports evaluation of potential land acquisition and M&A opportunities from a power perspective.

     What makes you a good fit: (Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or energy related discipline with 8+ years of relevant work experience
  • Broad network on utility, OEM and EPC executive relationships and participation in industry groups/events
  • Experience negotiating complex energy contracts and working with cross-functional teams to execute energy projects
  • Experience with utility rates and tariffs, interconnection requirements and queue processes
  • Experience with technology evaluation across renewables, gas, nuclear, storage, fuel cells etc., and selecting technology/EPC partners for energy projects
  • Demonstrable experience in long term strategy development, stakeholder alignment and cross-functional project execution. Ability to translate strategy into action and achieve results
  • Deep understanding of the US and Canadian regulated and de-regulated energy markets
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and execute in a fast-paced environment with a cross-functional team
  • Proficient in developing executive and board level presentations and communications
  • Proficient in data and analytics to drive business decisions and present information to different audiences.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communications (verbal and written) skills

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in behind-the-meter generation and substation project development
  • Established presence in energy industry groups and organizations such as EEI and DCC
  • Experience in Renewables Power Purchase Agreement and data center co-location opportunities with renewables/nuclear energy
  • Experience evaluating land acquisition/M&A opportunities for data centers in different markets

Individual compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's experience. This position will also be eligible for an annual bonus.

Salary Range

$190,000 - $220,000 USD
