Copper River Technologies is seeking an experienced Rigger to support complex rigging and weight-handling operations in industrial and maritime environments in Newport, RI.

The Rigger will safely plan, assemble, install, and operate rigging systems to move and position heavy or oversized equipment through confined or difficult-to-access areas.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Plan and execute complex rigging and weight-handling operations.
  • Assemble, install, inspect, maintain, and repair rigging systems, including chain falls, tackle blocks, gin poles, beam clamps, pad eyes, and related equipment.
  • Evaluate load size, weight, route, support structures, obstacles, and clearances to determine safe rigging methods.
  • Use multi-point suspension techniques to maneuver loads over, under, and around obstacles.
  • Direct crane and weight-handling equipment operators using standard signals.
  • Operate forklifts, small craft, and other authorized material-handling equipment as required.
  • Inspect equipment and work areas for hazards and take corrective action to maintain safe operations.
  • Work in industrial facilities, shipyards, aboard vessels, hangars, piers, and other assigned locations.
  • Provide guidance and training to other employees as needed.
  • Follow all PPE, safety, housekeeping, and quality requirements.

Essential Job Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Licensure:
    • Valid state driver's license
  • Experience:
    • Experience performing complex rigging and weight-handling operations.
    • Experience with wire and fiber rope rigging, including cutting, splicing, assembly, repair, and installation
    • Experience operating or working with forklifts, cranes, or other material-handling equipment
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Strong knowledge of rigging equipment, methods, and safety practices.
    • Ability to work safely in confined spaces, at heights, and around heavy or suspended loads
    • Ability to independently evaluate loads and select appropriate rigging methods
    • Hazardous material handling experience/knowledge required when applicable
    • Ability to communicate clearly by radio and/or standard crane signals
  • Physical & Work Requirements
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.; assistance and mechanical lifting devices are available for heavier loads
    • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, stop, push, and pull for extended periods
    • Ability to work in confined or awkward positions and at elevated heights
    • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
    • Must wear required PPE and comply with all safety requirements
  • Additional Requirements
    • Subject to pre-employment and annual physical examinations.
    • Subject to random drug testing
    • Must obtain and maintain required certifications, licenses, and security clearance, as applicable
    • May require overtime, emergency callback, weekend/holiday work, and approximately 1–2 days of travel per month

 

Position Pay Range

$35 - $37 USD
