Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic

Copper River Technologies is seeking an experienced Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic to inspect, troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, and modify a variety of heavy construction, earthmoving, and specialized vehicles and equipment in Crane, Indiana. The ideal candidate can independently diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic systems and complete repairs with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Diagnose and repair heavy mobile equipment, including bulldozers, graders, rollers, loaders, backhoes, cranes, combat equipment, and other specialized vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, electronic, and fuel systems.
  • Perform major repairs, overhauls, modifications, and component replacements.
  • Use diagnostic and testing equipment such as engine analyzers, dynamometers, pressure gauges, voltmeters, micrometers, calipers, and other specialized tools.
  • Read and apply technical manuals, schematics, diagrams, specifications, and repair procedures.
  • Measure, fit, install, align, and adjust components including pistons, valves, bearings, gears, cylinders, pumps, chains, and controls.
  • Adjust hydraulic and mechanical systems and synchronize electrical and hydraulic controls to manufacturer specifications.
  • Conduct functional and performance tests to verify completed repairs.
  • Review inspection reports, operator feedback, and equipment records to determine the extent of required repairs.
  • Select appropriate tools, repair methods, and technical references to complete assignments independently.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures and properly use required PPE.

Essential Job Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Experience:
    • Demonstrated experience repairing and maintaining heavy mobile equipment and specialized vehicles
    • Experience performing major repairs, overhauls, and modifications with minimal supervision
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Strong knowledge of diesel, gasoline, and multi-fuel engines and associated mechanical systems
    • Working knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, electronic, and fuel systems and their interaction with mechanical systems
    • Ability to troubleshoot complex or difficult-to-locate equipment failures
    • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, diagrams, and specifications
    • Basic electronics knowledge, including the ability to identify and replace components such as sensors, diodes, and circuit boards
    • Strong mechanical troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to independently exercise sound judgment within established trade practices and procedures
  • Physical & Work Requirements
    • Ability to work for extended periods in standing, bending, reaching, climbing, crouching, and confined or awkward positions
    • Ability to work on, under, and inside heavy equipment in tight spaces
    • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 40 lbs.; heavier components may require assistance or mechanical lifting equipment
    • Ability to work from ladders and elevated platforms when required
    • Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions
    • May be exposed to noise, dust, grease, fumes, heat, chemicals, electrical hazards, and other industrial hazards
    • Must wear required PPE, which may include hard hat, safety footwear, gloves, hearing protection, eye protection, respirator, and protective clothing
