Turklay Law, PLLC is a two-attorney litigation boutique in Tennessee focused on criminal and family matters, with select civil work. We hold a high bar for competence and initiative, communicate crisply, and operate with a culture of grace with boundaries as we grow a lean, high-performing team. We’re hiring an on-site Paralegal to deliver filing-ready drafts, command calendars and court filings, turn complex discovery into attorney-ready files, and keep daily operations running smoothly—while building simple SOPs and earning greater responsibility as the firm scales.

By joining our team, you’ll help raise the bar for how we serve clients and the courts—turning urgency into order, and drafts into results. You’ll be trusted to own workstreams end to end while building simple systems that make the firm stronger every month. If meaningful responsibility in a small, high-standards environment excites you, this could be the role for you.

What you’ll do:

  • Legal Drafting & Filings
    • Draft motions, pleadings, briefs, and correspondence (often filing-ready with minimal revision).
    • E-file and submit courtesy copies in accordance with Tennessee court rules and local procedures.
  • Calendaring, Scheduling & Case Admin
    • Own deadline management and court calendars; schedule hearings, depositions, client meetings, and appearances.
    • Maintain complete, audit-ready files (including representation agreements); track tasks in Filevine (or similar).
  • Discovery & Case Analysis
    • Organize and analyze discovery into attorney-ready work product.
    • Review and summarize depositions/testimony; prepare deposition kits and materials.
  • Research & Trial Support
    • Conduct targeted research (Westlaw/Lexis or similar) to support strategy and motion practice.
    • Prepare exhibits, witness lists, subpoenas; build trial binders and ensure courtroom materials are ready.
  • Client, Witness & Vendor Coordination
    • Communicate professionally with clients, witnesses, experts, and court staff; manage logistics and updates.
    • Provide front-of-house support (phone presence, intake/screening) as needed.
  • Payments & Collections
    • Set up and manage payment plans, track balances, follow up on past-due accounts, and maintain records.
  • Office Operations & Process Improvement
    • Be on-site to receive mail/deliveries, accept in-person payments, and coordinate vendors.
    • Help create SOPs and lightweight performance/evaluation processes as the firm scales.
  • Future Growth
    • Opportunity to mentor/train future hires and evolve into senior/lead paralegal or office manager as the team expands.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience & Background: 2–3+ years as a paralegal (criminal/family strongly preferred); comfortable in a small-firm environment handling both paralegal and office-ops duties.
  • Drafting & Written Advocacy: Delivers motions/briefs/pleadings that are often filing-ready with minimal revision; formats to local rules and reduces attorney edit time.
  • Discovery & File Mastery: Organizes/analyzes discovery like an attorney; builds usable, attorney-ready files; prepares depo kits; keeps rep agreements and documentation complete and audit-ready.
  • Calendaring & Court Procedure: Owns deadlines and court calendars end-to-end; schedules hearings/depositions; handles Tennessee e-filing and local procedures (or ramps quickly with little oversight).
  • Payments & Office Operations: Sets up/manages payment plans, tracks balances, and follows up; receives in-person payments; manages mail/deliveries/vendors; maintains a professional front-of-house.
  • Communication, Initiative & Reliability: Proactive and self-directed; communicates crisply with attorneys, clients, courts, and vendors; thrives in a culture of grace with boundaries; consistently meets reasonable deadlines (bonus: confident phone presence for intake).
  • Tools & Technical Proficiency: Filevine (or comparable case-management), calendar tools, MS Office/Google Workspace; phone systems; targeted legal research as needed.

Why you should work here:

  • Build from day one: Be the firm’s cornerstone paralegal—shape systems, write simple SOPs, and help stand up lightweight performance/evaluation processes.
  • High-impact ownership: Draft filing-ready motions/briefs, run calendars and deadlines, and keep attorneys focused on the highest-value work.
  • Cross-practice exposure: Work across criminal and family (plus some civil), touching discovery, depositions, and trial prep—real variety, real learning.
  • Mentorship & fast feedback: Collaborate directly with two litigators for quick iterations that sharpen your writing, strategy, and case-management skills.
  • Clear growth runway: As the team expands, step into mentoring, lead paralegal, or office manager responsibilities.

Additional perks:

  • Paid time off (PTO): Competitive PTO with firm-observed holidays (specifics finalized at offer).
  • Health insurance: Employer-supported medical coverage, with optional dental/vision (plan details discussed during interviews).
  • Relocation support: Up to $1,500 reimbursement with receipts.

At Turklay Law, PLLC, sharp work earns trust—and trust earns runway. If the mix of substantive drafting, ownership of operations, and building simple systems sounds like your best work, we’d love to hear from you.
