Lead Extraction Technician
Job Type: Full Time, Non-Exempt
Shifts: Monday-Friday, 6:00am-2:30pm
Starting Pay Rate: $25.75/hr.
Location: Hammonton, NJ
Who You Are:
As the Lead Extraction Technician at Curaleaf, you'll play a critical role in our laboratory operations, executing complex extraction procedures, maintaining equipment, and supporting a culture of compliance and continuous improvement. You thrive in a regulated, fast-paced environment and are driven by the science behind cannabis extraction. In this role, you'll not only help keep daily operations running smoothly but also mentor others and contribute to the development of innovative products and purification techniques.
What You Will Do:
- Prepare for production by reviewing schedules, clarifying specifications, and calculating requirements
- Assemble, weigh, and stage materials for extraction
- Operate and maintain highly specialized extraction and purification equipment
- Process cannabis concentrates and extracts in compliance with cGMP and SOPs
- Harvest terpene and cannabinoid-containing extracts using supercritical and other advanced extraction methods
- Conduct purification processes including ethanol winterization, filtration, rotary evaporation, decarboxylation, and distillation
- Support the development of new purification processes and products
- Maintain and document inventory using state-approved cannabis tracking software
- Dispose of waste according to state guidelines and maintain a clean, compliant lab space
- Wash and sanitize lab glassware and ensure equipment is clean and functional
- Complete clerical and recordkeeping duties, including batch reports, safety data sheets, and equipment logs
- Maintain full compliance with all state and federal laws and cannabis regulations
- Provide guidance and on-the-job training to peers
What You'll Bring:
- Associate’s Degree and 1–2 years of experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment.
- A mechanical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair laboratory equipment
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to keep precise and accurate records of procedures, calculations, and inventory
- Working knowledge of laboratory techniques, scientific measurements, and equipment used in a chemistry lab
- Understanding of health, safety, and compliance practices in a lab environment
- Experience handling and disposing of chemicals and hazardous materials safely
- Proficiency with lab software systems and digital recordkeeping tools
- Strong organizational skills and a commitment to consistency, cleanliness, and quality
Even Better If You Have:
- Experience with supercritical CO2 extraction or rotary evaporation equipment.
- Background in cannabis extraction or similar high-compliance industries.
- Passion for scientific innovation and interest in product/process development.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, along with frequent bending
- Close vision (unobstructed vision at 20 inches or less)
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with fingers
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in an environment that is exposed to plant materials and strong odors
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and lift up to 25 lbs. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 lbs. This role requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
This position has allergen warnings, potential exposure to dust, pollen, and plant pathogens, requires exposure to cleaning solvents, such as high volumes of isopropyl alcohol, requires daily use of provided PPE, such as masks, hair nets, beard covers, respirators, boot covers, scrubs, non-slip shoes, and Tyvek suits as necessary, requires the ability to work in confined spaces, has exposure to loud noises, including but not limited to air compressors, packaging equipment, and alarms, has exposure to CO2 manufacturing procedures at OSHA approved CO2 levels and requires a high-stress tolerance, adaptability, and flexibility, as well as the ability to work in an ever-changing environment
