Definian is hiring an experienced Software Architect to join our growing team in Hyderabad, India.
This role represents a rare career-defining opportunity for an experienced architect who thrives on complex, high-stakes challenges. You'll be leading the modernization of Applaud, mission-critical software that drives a substantial portion of our company's revenue. This is a complete architectural transformation – converting decades of COBOL and C++ legacy code into modern C# using object-oriented design principles and contemporary best practices. This isn't a simple translation project; it requires someone who can reverse-engineer complex procedural logic, reconceptualize it through an architectural lens, and rebuild it for the next generation.
You'll be one of the first members of our India engineering team, shaping how we build software at Definian. Beyond the modernization work, you'll provide technical leadership and mentorship to a growing team of C# and Python developers, ensuring code quality and architectural consistency. You'll work closely with our US-based Senior Architect to align on architectural decisions and implement solutions that serve both our internal needs and our clients. There's clear potential to grow into formal management responsibilities as the team expands.

What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the architectural transformation of Applaud from COBOL/C++ to modern C# – reverse-engineering procedural logic and rebuilding it with object-oriented design
- Write production-quality code in C#/.NET and Python – this is a hands-on role, not just oversight
- Develop and maintain WPF desktop application components
- Leverage Claude and Claude Code to accelerate development workflows and pioneer AI-assisted modernization approaches
- Establish best practices for AI-assisted development across the India team
- Contribute to the Definian Data Platform (DDP) architecture and development as a secondary focus
- Mentor and guide India-based developers (C# and Python teams), conducting code reviews and establishing quality standards
- Collaborate with the US Senior Architect to ensure architectural alignment across teams
- Translate high-level architectural decisions into implementable designs and patterns
- Identify and address technical debt while balancing delivery timelines
- Document architectural decisions, design patterns, and technical standards
- Serve as a trusted technical partner to leadership on this business-critical initiative
- Participate in sprint planning, estimation, and delivery commitments

What You'll Bring to the Team
Required
- 5+ years of software development experience with progressive responsibility
- Strong proficiency in C# and .NET (Core/.NET 6+)
- Experience with modern UI frameworks (WPF, WinForms, MAUI, Blazor, or similar)
- Strong proficiency in Python
- Experience with Visual Studio Professional
- Solid understanding of software architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices
- Experience with relational databases and SQL
- Experience mentoring or leading other developers
- Strong communication skills – ability to work effectively with US-based team members across time zones
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment (4 days in Hyderabad office)
- Graduate in Engineering or Bachelor of Science
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) desktop application development
- Experience with legacy system modernization or migration projects
- Experience with DevExpress UI components
- Experience with Azure DevOps for source control, CI/CD, and work item tracking
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools, particularly Claude or similar LLM-based tools
- Understanding of prompt engineering and context engineering principles for effective AI collaboration
- Experience with AWS services (Lambda, RDS, S3, etc.)
- Experience with PostgreSQL or other modern relational databases
- Experience with API design and integration patterns
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strong analytical mindset and business acumen
