Dialpad’s Product Engineering organization is responsible for building and maintaining the customer-facing features at scale across all of our cloud native products and services. Every day, millions of users across the world leverage our technology for communicating effectively and efficiently.

About the Role
We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our engineering team and play a key leadership role in designing, building, and scaling our backend systems and cloud infrastructure. As a Senior Engineer, you will lead complex projects, mentor other engineers, and drive the architectural direction of our platform. You’ll work closely with product managers, DevOps, and other engineering leaders to ensure reliability, performance, and scalability across our systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement highly scalable, reliable, and secure backend services and APIs.
- Drive architectural decisions and long-term technical strategy for cloud-native backend systems.
- Collaborate across teams to define service boundaries, data models, and integration patterns.
- Lead the management and optimization of systems in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Set best practices for code quality, testing, monitoring, and deployment.
- Mentor and coach engineers, helping to elevate the technical bar across the organization.
- Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, scalability issues, and technical debt.
- Evaluate and introduce new technologies and tools to improve system performance and developer productivity.
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend engineering experience, with 2+ years in a lead-level role.
- Strong proficiency in modern backend languages (e.g. Java, Python).
- Deep experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS and GCP) and cloud-native design patterns.
- Proven track record in designing and building distributed systems at scale.
- Solid understanding of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, observability tools, and monitoring systems.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures (Kafka, Pub/Sub).
- Exposure to serverless computing and microservices best practices.
