About the role

Ditto is at an inflection point. As we scale to meet the growing demands of our commercial and public sector customers, we need an experienced Engineering Manager to drive and lead our Public Sector Engineering organization, overseeing multiple critical teams including Apps, Cloud, and Field Engineering.

This is a unique opportunity to play a leading role in shaping enterprise-grade reliability, observability and incident management to ensure Ditto's systems meet the high standards our customers expect.

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading diverse engineers across multiple teams, driving technical excellence, and ensuring our products meet the stringent requirements of government and defense customers. You'll work closely with federal agencies, military organizations, and other public sector entities to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable solutions.

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Lead and scale a distributed Public Sector Engineering organization, including managers and ICs, setting the long-term vision and execution plan for reliability at scale
  • Develop engineering leaders and senior talent, coaching on both technical depth and leadership maturity to create a high-trust, high-performance organization
  • Develop a dual-use strategy to leverage Ditto’s core IP in the public sector, while simultaneously driving improvement of core Ditto technology
  • Lead the architecture and execution of Public Sector integration, product development, and field engineering
  • Oversee certification and deployment of Ditto’s server and cloud offerings into the public sector
  • Oversee technical execution on Public Sector contracts
  • Coordinate with other engineering teams, security teams, and external partners to build reliable, scalable, secure edge sync capabilities
  • Guide teams to define, implement, and iterate on direct support and SLAs that are meaningful to end user experience
  • Establish best-in-class documentation and operational hygiene, including runbooks, architectural decision records (ADRs), and deep operational reviews
  • Model on-call excellence, including burnout prevention, clear handoffs, and leveraging automation and toil elimination
  • Design talent acquisition strategies, hiring criteria, and interview modules to build a team of exceptional talent
  • Design and implement a highly effective engineering org structure, including geo located teams, internal leadership and management lines, and integration/partnership points with other teams and external partners
  • Play a central role in the transformation of Ditto’s engineering culture into a culture that prioritizes reliability, resilience, and security of our mission critical software. Communicate & articulate this mission across the entire company in all hands, presentations, working sessions, and via enactment of strategic objectives

What you’ll bring

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • 4+ years in engineering leadership, including managing other managers, with a track record of scaling high-performing teams
  • Demonstrated experience leading cultural development in engineering organizations
  • Proven experience delivering software to government customers (DoD, IC, or Federal Civilian)
  • Track record of leading teams through FedRAMP, DISA STIG, FIPS, or similar compliance processes
  • Demonstrated success in scaling engineering organizations in regulated environments
  • Excellent communicator and cross-functional partner, capable of influencing product and exec teams on engineering trade-offs
  • Adept at project and program management across multiple priorities, including balancing feature delivery with operational improvements
  • Experience with classified systems and understanding of security requirements
  • U.S. citizenship, and an ability to obtain a security clearance

Nice to have

  • Experience building platforms with high uptime requirements
  • Experience managing highly distributed technical teams
  • Familiarity with compliance-driven reliability environments (e.g., regulated industries)
  • Experience scaling DevOps platforms and internal tooling ecosystems
  • Passion for knowledge sharing through internal tech talks, RFCs, or public speaking
  • Active security clearance
