About the Role:
The Retail Team Lead, Canada, will manage key retail channels (Mass, Grocery, Club, Drug) to drive growth and achieve performance objectives. This role involves P&L ownership, strategic account management, and building a high-performing team. Ideal candidates have 10+ years of experience managing retail customers directly or through brokers. You’ll report to the Head of International and collaborate closely with the Global Retail Sales Team.
This is a full-time role with benefits and is approved for remote candidates.
The anticipated base compensation range for this role will be $150,000 to $175,000 USD. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and local market rates.
What You'll Do:
- Retail Strategy: Collaborate with the Head of International and the Head of Retail to build and execute our sales strategy in Canada to encourage trial, market share growth & household penetration
- Retail P&L Management: Manage the Canadian retail P&L, ensuring revenue and profitability goals are met. Conduct analysis to recover accounts and identify new growth opportunities.
- Account Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key retail partners, including negotiating contracts, terms, and promotional opportunities.
- Retail Marketing: Drive progress in collaboration with our marketing team to create visually stunning, best-in-class merchandising destinations for Dr. Squatch on shelf
- Promotional Planning & Execution: Develop and own strategy for trade promotions & customer spending by account
- Product Innovation: Work directly with retail partners to identify assortment needs and collaborate with the commercialization team to ensure timely launch of new products into retailers
- Sales Pitches: Drive the development of sales pitches and annual line reviews, showcasing product innovation and category insights
- Reporting: Present account performance, priorities, and strategies to leadership regularly
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Marketing, Supply Chain, Finance, and other teams to ensure alignment on product launches, pricing strategies, promotional planning, and overall retail execution.
- Demand Planning: Provide key inputs for account-specific demand forecasts
About You:
- 10+ years of experience in Sales, Business Development, or Account Management background in CPG - preference for prior category experience in personal care or wellness
- Blend of experience between large established brands and early-stage ups
- Experience working with Tier 1 Canadian Accounts (e.g., Walmart, Costco, Loblaws, Shoppers Drug Mart, etc.)
- Proven success in achieving aggressive sales goals
- Prior experience managing multiple broker networks
- Prior experience optimizing performance and managing third-party merchandising groups
- Deep understanding of the landscape for national accounts, brokers, distributors, etc.
- Experience scaling a brand and pioneering retail sales a huge plus
- Experience launching international retail sales a huge plus
- Ability to travel when necessary
- Excellent communication skills
- Interest in health and wellness, personal care, and/or eCommerce industries
- Experience working in the consumer products industry is highly preferred
- Someone who gets things done without perfect resources is innovative and works with a sense of urgency
- Someone who has high standards takes ownership and is invested in the outcome
- Someone who proactively helps others stays positive and has a good sense of humor
