Security Engineering Lead
About Euc
We’re making good health last a lifetime
More than 1 billion people globally live with obesity, a significant leading indicator of many preventable chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.
Eucalyptus is the company behind Juniper, one of the world’s largest weight management programs combining GLP-1 medication with a tailored nutrition and exercise programme, supported by our multidisciplinary care team of prescribers, health coaches, dietitians, nurses and pharmacists.
Our published clinical research demonstrates that our combined approach to weight management and lifestyle change increases the likelihood of our patients losing significant weight during their treatment with Juniper by four times.
Since launching, we’ve grown fast to support millions of patients. In the last 12 months:
- We grew the size of our patient base by 10x in the UK, received selective NICE endorsement for our holistic approach to obesity management, and grew our team from 50 to 200.
- Globally, we grew revenue by >120% YoY, while reducing cash burned by 90% YoY, with over $100M USD raised from global investors such as BOND, NewView, Blackbird and Airtree - early backers of companies like Canva, Stripe, Uber and Airbnb.
What’s next?
In 2025, we are charting the path to support hundreds of thousands of patients while launching into new conditions, demographics, and geographies as we move towards our vision of creating a preventive healthcare ecosystem.
We’re building the world’s largest international digital healthcare company. This will be highly challenging, very rewarding and the adventure of a lifetime, working with the best operators you will ever encounter.
If that gets you excited, let’s talk!
About the role (What you’ll be doing)
As Security Engineering Lead you will join our Trust Team (IT, Infrastructure and Cybersecurity) at Eucalyptus and contribute to building and maintaining a trusted digital health platform. You will have the opportunity to manage a global cybersecurity program that protects the dignity of patients using our healthcare services. This role reports to our Head of Security and Infrastructure and manages a team of 4 engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage our security engineering team. You will lead, coach and develop a highly skilled team of security engineers covering product and corporate security.
- Drive continuous improvement in security engineering. Own the roadmap and manage delivery for our security engineering function, continuously driving improvements in our security posture.
- Champion secure-by-design with business and technology teams. Partner with stakeholders across our business to advise on solution risks, lead threat modelling sessions and provide design recommendations.
- Manage incident response and incident readiness. Manage security operations and incident response across the APAC and EMEA regions.
- Manage emerging technology risks. Develop strategies and run initiatives to manage emerging technology risks.
About you (Who you are)
Skills & Experience
As a key member of our Trust team, you will have:
- 5+ years of experience working in cybersecurity roles in startup/scaleup environments or software companies
- Deep experience in at least two of the following security domains:
- Product security / AppSec
- Security operations
- Infrastructure security
- Experience leading/managing a team of engineers, providing feedback and growing team capability.
- Ability to prioritise security initiatives based on highest impact for the business and manage cross-functional project delivery.
- Experience coordinating security incident response and security operations across multiple countries/regions.
- Deep understanding of web application vulnerabilities, attack techniques and mitigation strategies.
- Hands-on experience with designing, implementing and securing cloud-native systems and applications. Experience in GCP would be highly regarded (credit for AWS).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in communicating technology risks to non-technical audiences.
Behaviours & Attitudes
- Strong business analysis and partnering skills. You thrive on the opportunity to work alongside diverse stakeholders across all areas of the organisation and to build strong business relationships.
- Problem-solving orientation: You approach challenges with creativity and persistence. You're comfortable with ambiguity and find solutions when requirements aren't fully defined. You can connect day-to-day work to larger objectives.
- Continuous learner: You're intellectually curious and humble. You actively seek new perspectives, adapt your thinking based on evidence, and embrace the learning curve of building in diverse health domains.
Why you should join Engineering at Euc
- We’re on a quest to build a robust, scalable, configurable, multi-brand platform (that’s also enjoyable to work on!) on which we can solve the world’s biggest healthcare challenges, and you can be a pivotal player in that journey.
- We have a high performance culture
- We have a high bar for talent, so you’ll get to learn from some of the best engineers in the industry
- We write as many low quality memes as we do high quality PRs
- We optimise for velocity and deploy to production hundreds of times a month. Once you merge your code, it’s in prod in minutes
- You’ll get to work with a modern tech stack that we’re always improving. If something isn’t working for us, we’ll iterate until we get it right and everyone on the team is encouraged to help refine it.
- Frontend: React, React Native + Expo, TypeScript, Apollo, Tailwind
- Backend: Node (TypeScript) and Go microservices, Federated GraphQL, gRPC, Protobufs, Pub/Sub and Postgres, hosted on GCP Kubernetes Engine (GKE)
- You’ll work on interesting engineering challenges:
- Euc has a large appetite for product development, so we have a roadmap of innovative, greenfield features to work on
- We've been running microservices smoothly in production for a few years, but there is still a lot of complex business logic in our legacy mono-repo to understand, break down, improve and port across.
- We strive for efficiency and invest heavily in internal tooling to improve developer experience
- We’ll invest in your growth, development and career
- When we introduced Go microservices we invested in upskilling the whole team in a new language
- No matter which direction you want to take your career, we’ll provide opportunities for you
- Every engineer has a yearly Learning and Development budget that they can use for courses, books, conferences, anything to help you learn.
At Eucalyptus, we value individuals from all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, and we embrace the unique qualities each person brings. When you apply, please let us know of any reasonable adjustments you may need during the interview process.
