
Principal Engineer, Range Extender System

Your Role:
As a highly experienced and innovative Principal Engineer for our range extender system, you will lead the technical development, optimization, and integration of range extender systems, including engine and generator components, for electric vehicles. This role demands deep technical expertise in range extender electric vehicle systems, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional teams to drive cutting-edge solutions and ensure project success.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and validation of range extender systems, ensuring compliance with performance, efficiency, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive technical innovation in engine and generator technologies, optimizing combustion, hybrid energy management, and powertrain efficiency.
- Develop and refine control algorithms for engine and generator systems to ensure smooth operation, efficient power distribution, optimal fuel economy, and low emissions.
- Design and implement diagnostic algorithms to monitor system performance and identify issues proactively.
- Oversee system-level integration of range extender systems into vehicles, ensuring seamless operation and reliability during mass production.
- Conduct and analyze engine, generator, and system-level tests to ensure reliability, safety, and compliance with EPA and CARB emission regulations.
- Implement and validate On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) systems to meet regulatory requirements (EPA, CARB).
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure high-quality development, validation, and delivery of range extender components.
- Evaluate supplier technical capabilities and ensure alignment with project timelines and quality standards.
- Optimize cooling systems for engines, generators, and batteries to prevent thermal failures and enhance reliability under extreme conditions.
- Analyze fault data to improve system reliability, reduce downtime, and enhance overall performance.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards for range extender systems.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
Basic Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. PhD is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in the development and integration of range extender systems for electric vehicles.
- Advanced expertise in engine and generator technologies, including control algorithms and system optimization.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements (EPA, CARB) and testing processes for vehicle emissions and OBD systems.
- Proven experience in supplier collaboration and technical evaluation.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on system reliability and performance.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience with mass production processes in the automotive industry.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects from concept to production.
- Familiarity with advanced simulation tools and data analysis for powertrain optimization.
Annual Salary Range:
(170K - 220K DOE), plus benefits and incentive plans
