What you’ll do

As a Senior Billing and Credit Assistant, you’ll play a key role in supporting the Billing and Credit Manager with billing, reporting and credit control activities. You’ll work closely with our lawyers, our clients and the wider Finance team to ensure a smooth, accurate and timely billing and cash collection process. You’ll also support Credit Controllers, provide high‑quality reporting and help drive efficiencies across the function.  This is a role that suits someone who enjoys building strong working relationships, has an eye for detail and takes a “right first time” approach to their work.

In this role you'll deal with:

Billing & Credit Control:

  • Support Credit Controllers with an efficient reminder system that promotes effective client cash collection.
  • Lead monthly billing cycles for assigned legal teams, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Liaise with lawyers and clients to resolve billing and account queries.
  • Communicate complex billing arrangements clearly to Credit Controllers to support successful cash collection.
  • Ensure compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules, HMRC regulations and the firm’s Credit Policy.
  • Allocate office payments accurately and in line with firm policy.

Reporting & Financial Governance

  • Assist with high‑level reporting tasks to support the firm’s cash‑flow management and core debt reduction.
  • Adopt a disciplined and accurate approach to data reconciliation and reporting.

  • Relevant and confident experience working in a Billing and Credit function.
  • A strong commitment to accuracy, quality and attention to detail.
  • Proactive, organised and able to prioritise effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Confident communicator able to tailor style to different audiences.
  • Sound understanding of accounting and banking procedures (or willingness to learn).
  • Ability to develop knowledge of Solicitors Accounts Rules.
  • A flexible, team‑focused approach with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Competence with modern IT systems and finance software.
