Job Title: EHS Specialist

Location: Piscataway, NJ (Fully Onsite)

Reports to: Director of US Site Operations

Compensation: The estimated salary range is $75,000.

Job Overview: 

This is an early-career role supporting EHS operations at our New Jersey research labs. Working under the direction of the Senior EHS Specialist, you'll carry out routine inspections, recordkeeping, and chemical, waste, and training tasks. The role is hands-on, with daily time in labs, warehouses, and project areas.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Perform assigned inspections using checklists, including eyewash and safety shower checks, fire extinguisher checks, and waste accumulation area checks. Record findings and report them to the Senior EHS Specialist.
  • Update the chemical inventory and SDS library, and help labs with chemical labeling.
  • Schedule waste pickups with vendors and prepare waste paperwork for review. After completing training and receiving sign-off, serve as a backup signer for hazardous waste manifests.
  • Schedule new-hire EHS orientation and keep training records up to date.
  • Check that contractors have signed in and have the required documents and approved permits on file before work begins.
  • Take initial incident and near-miss reports and photos and pass them to the Senior EHS Specialist.
  • Enter data into EHS records, including OSHA logs, NJ Right to Know, and corrective action trackers, under review.
  • Help with emergency drills, PPE distribution, and safety committee logistics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in EHS, environmental science, chemistry, biology, engineering, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of EHS, laboratory, or related experience.
  • Basic understanding of lab safety, PPE, and chemical handling; lab coursework or lab work experience preferred.
  • Willingness to complete OSHA 30, RCRA hazardous waste, and DOT hazmat training.
  • Highly motivated and dependable on follow-through, with a track record of taking ownership of tasks and seeing them through to results.
  • Organized and comfortable working in labs and around construction.
