What you'll do:
As a Senior Product Designer your key area of responsibility will be driving design initiatives in cross-functional teams, promoting cross-functional collaboration and ensuring the seamless integration of design solutions throughout the product development lifecycle. You will be responsible for knowledge sharing within the design team, mentoring and supporting junior designers to foster their professional growth and excellence. You will need to work closely with product management, engineering, research, and senior leadership/stakeholders.
To be successful in this role you will be a strong team-player, highly organized, and an excellent communicator with the ability to communicate complex ideas, goals, and problems in a way that is accessible even to those unfamiliar with the project. In addition, the successful candidate will have deep knowledge of product design, experience leading all aspects of the user-centered design process, and the ability to develop high-level design strategy and vision.
How you'll make an impact:
- Responsible for driving design initiatives in cross-functional teams, promoting cross-functional collaboration and ensuring the seamless integration of design solutions throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Take a proactive role in identifying opportunities to enhance design capabilities and effectiveness, initiating improvements in design methodologies, tools, and workflows to optimize efficiency and deliver exceptional user experiences.
- Conduct research, user testing, and analysis to gain deep insights into user behaviors, preferences, and pain points, guiding the development of user-centered design solutions.
- Take responsibility for knowledge sharing within the design team, mentoring and supporting junior designers to foster their professional growth and excellence.
- Advise manager on user-centric design principles and best practices, ensuring that design solutions align with user needs and industry standards.
- Champion the adoption and evolution of a design system, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive its implementation and maintenance by establishing and encouraging the adoption of design system guidelines.
- Help build a high-functioning design team and culture; contributing to hiring processes, providing thoughtful feedback in design critiques, identifying internal and external opportunities to level up design at Geotab.
What you'll bring to the role:
- 5-8 years of relevant industry experience.
- Relevant Bachelor’s Diploma/Degree or relevant industry experience, ideally with a specialization in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical or Electronics Engineering or any other related field.
- Deep knowledge of product design, including common interaction patterns used and associated trade-offs, and best practices for responsive web applications.
- Experience collaborating closely with product management, engineering, and research.
- Proficiency in UI design and using tools like Figma, Sketch, InVision, Principle, etc.
- Ability to lead all aspects of the user-centered design process from conception to completion.
- Ability to develop high-level design strategy and vision.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal relationship building skills.
- Strong team-player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
