Senior Director of Communications
At GWI, we help the world’s most ambitious brands understand their audiences, predict behaviors, and create impactful customer experiences. As we expand our impact at the intersection of AI and customer insights, we’re seeking an accomplished and inspiring communications leader to tell the story of our evolution on the global stage.
Sounds great, what will I be doing?
We’re looking for a visionary Senior Director, External Communications to lead GWI’s global communications strategy across public relations, media engagement, executive communications, and social media.
This role is both strategic and hands-on. You will be GWI’s chief storyteller — crafting compelling narratives that resonate with media, customers, and the investor community while elevating our brand’s voice in the market. You’ll shape public discourse, build strong connections to our audiences, and develop integrated communication strategies that drive brand awareness, influence perception, and deliver business impact.
You will collaborate across functions to ensure that all messaging is consistent, accurate, and aligned with GWI’s vision and mission.
It’s also fun; shaking things up is what working for a growing company is all about. So you’ll need to be flexible, comfortable with continuous change, and working in a high-tempo environment as we grow.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Lead the development and execution of GWI’s external communications strategy, aligning efforts with company goals, product launches, and business milestones.
- Oversee PR, executive communications, media engagement, social media, and crisis response.
- Drive U.S. market expansion communications — establishing GWI’s market narrative, brand positioning, and awareness through high-impact external media strategies.
- Stay ahead of industry trends, competitor news, and the evolving media landscape to keep GWI at the center of relevant conversations.
Media Relations & Thought Leadership
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team, shaping executive visibility and thought leadership.
- Build and maintain relationships across news, business, technology, trade, and broadcast media.
- Proactively pitch stories, secure high-quality earned coverage, and position GWI as a thought leader in AI and customer insights.
- Develop and manage executive thought leadership programs, shape unique points of view, craft media-ready messaging, and secure top-tier speaking opportunities.
- Partner with product, revenue, marketing, and insights teams to turn insights, partnerships and product innovation into compelling narratives and media angles.
Executive & Crisis Management
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team on visibility, public positioning, and narrative development.
- Train and coach spokespeople for interviews, panels, and keynote engagements.
- Oversee crisis communications planning and real-time response with clarity, confidence, and control.
Team Leadership & Performance
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing communications team with empathy, and strategic direction.
- Foster cross-functional alignment with GTM and other teams to ensure communications efforts impact business growth.
- Create clear reporting on communications performance, demonstrating impact on business goals and evaluating campaign efficiency.
What do I need to bring with me?
You’ll need to be able to demonstrate the core skills this role requires. You don't have to tick all the boxes right away; the important thing is that you’re willing to learn. Here’s what the team will be looking for:
- Extensive communications experience, with a proven track record in media relations, PR, and executive communications for high-growth tech brands.
- Demonstrated success in securing top-tier media placements that shape narrative, influence public opinion, and build brand credibility.
- Skilled in translating complex technical or data-driven concepts into clear, engaging, media-ready stories.
- Strong collaborator with the ability to influence and operate across all levels of the organization.
- Experience working closely with senior executives on media opportunities, speaking engagements, and thought leadership.
- Proficient in leveraging AI tools to improve communication strategy and execution.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities with an editorial mindset.
- Passion for using data and insights to inform strategy and measure impact.
- High intensity paired with high humility — approachable, inspiring, and grounded.
Equally important is attitude. We want people who think big (to make an impact), ask why (to find a better way), and show respect (to everyone, at every level, all the time). Those are our values, exemplified by our leadership team, and they’re a big part of what we’re looking for in you.
