Position Overview:
Our ideal candidate will be a experienced corporate/commercial lawyer who shares our passion for promoting the growth of renewable energy and can thrive in a fast growing, entrepreneurial environment. The Senior Counsel will serve as a generalist, providing strategic legal support across a wide range of practice areas, including contracts, employment law, real estate, compliance, and more. This role requires a proactive, business-minded legal professional with the ability to navigate complex issues and partner effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including vendor, supplier, and customer contracts, NDAs, and licensing agreements.
- Employment: Advise on employment matters, including policies, compliance, union and employee relations to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local laws.
- Property: Oversee real estate matters, including lease agreements, property acquisitions, construction contracts, and related compliance requirements for our manufacturing facility.
- Compliance: Develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including those related to environmental, health, and safety standards.
- Risk Management: Identify potential legal risks, provide strategic counsel, and develop solutions to mitigate exposure.
- Corporate Governance: Support corporate governance initiatives, including maintaining corporate records, policies, and regulatory filings.
- Cross-Functional Support: Partner with business units such as HR, Procurement, and Operations to provide legal guidance and support on projects and operational needs.
- Litigation: Manage and oversee any disputes, claims, or litigation matters, including working with external counsel as necessary.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in at least one U.S. state, with the ability to practice in Illinois or obtain Illinois in-house counsel registration.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience in a law firm or in-house counsel role, preferably in a manufacturing, energy, or high-growth environment.
- Strong expertise in drafting and negotiating contracts and a solid understanding of employment law and property-related legal issues.
- Proven ability to handle multiple priorities and provide practical, business-focused legal advice in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to manage external counsel effectively and efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills with a business-level to near native-level fluency in English (written and oral). Fluency in Mandarin Chinese is a plus but not required.
