Role Summary:
The Sales Electrical Engineer is a hybrid commercial and technical role within the Market Management Center at Gotion Illinois New Energy. This position bridges the gap between engineering and business development — supporting customer acquisition and account management on the commercial side while providing the technical depth needed to configure, specify, and validate energy storage and power systems solutions. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable presenting a value proposition to a prospective customer as they are reviewing single-line diagrams, interpreting interconnection requirements, or working through system performance data with an engineering team.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales & Customer Development
- Identify, qualify, and pursue new customer opportunities across target segments including C&I, data centers, municipalities, and utilities.
- Lead customer-facing engagements from initial outreach through proposal, negotiation, and contract execution.
- Develop and present tailored proposals that clearly communicate technical capabilities, financial value, and project structure.
- Build and maintain a pipeline of active prospects; track activity and report progress against sales targets to the Director.
- Support the development of marketing materials, capability decks, and case studies that position Gotion's BESS and energy solutions competitively.
- Represent Gotion at industry events, trade shows, and customer meetings as a credible technical and commercial voice.
Technical Engineering Support
- Provide technical guidance on BESS system design, including sizing, configuration, power conversion, and grid interconnection requirements.
- Review and interpret single-line diagrams, protection relay schemes, and interconnection studies to support customer projects and internal deployments.
- Work with ComEd, PJM, and other utilities on interconnection applications, protection coordination studies, and technical compliance requirements — including THD/PQ testing and IEEE 519 compliance documentation.
- Collaborate with the Program Manager and Power Station Manager on technical specifications, equipment selection, and system commissioning.
- Evaluate and respond to customer technical due diligence requests, RFPs, and RFIs with accurate, well-documented answers.
- Support FEOC compliance documentation and domestic content analysis as needed for ITC qualification and customer-facing reporting.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as the primary technical liaison between the Market Management Center and Gotion's engineering teams in the US and China.
- Translate customer and market requirements into clear technical briefs for internal engineering and product teams.
- Support hub expansion planning by providing technical input on site-specific design requirements for domestic and international deployments.
- Coordinate with outside legal counsel and government relations on technical aspects of permitting, MOU negotiations, and regulatory filings.
- Assist with aftersales support and warranty coordination, serving as a technical point of contact for existing customers post-COD.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a closely related field.
- 4+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 1–2 years in a customer-facing, sales engineering, or business development capacity.
- Working knowledge of power systems fundamentals: protection schemes, single-line diagrams, load flow, and interconnection standards.
- Familiarity with battery energy storage systems (BESS), inverters/PCS, and grid-tied or behind-the-meter energy applications.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, compelling language for non-technical audiences.
- Strong proposal writing, presentation, and customer communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office; experience with CRM tools and engineering software (AutoCAD, ETAP, or equivalent) is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):
- Experience with utility-scale BESS, solar-plus-storage, or grid services projects in PJM or MISO markets.
- Familiarity with ComEd interconnection processes, IEEE 519 harmonic distortion standards, and protection coordination studies.
- Understanding of PPA structures, capacity markets, ancillary services, and energy arbitrage fundamentals.
- Experience working with C&I customers, data centers, municipalities, or industrial energy buyers.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of licensure.
- Bilingual (English/Mandarin) is a plus but not required
Additional Information:
- This position is primarily based at the Manteno, Illinois facility with regular on-site presence expected.
- Travel to customer sites, utility offices, industry events, and partner facilities will be required — estimated 20–30% of the time.
- Occasional international travel to Gotion facilities in China or other global locations may arise as the business expands
